I can still remember when color TVs were just a dream. We had a, I think, 1954 model Packard Bell 18 or 19" black & white set. Screen was more round than it was a rectangle.
Can remember on at least 2 or 3 occasions, going with Dad down to Thrifty Drug to use their tube testing machine to troubleshoot bad tubes in the TV.

When my grandparents big furniture sized tv finally couldn’t be repaired any more they closed the cabinet doors over the screen, and plopped a new TV right on top.

I well remember out first TV. Black and white Motorola in a Bakelite cabinet, with same shaped screen. It would probably be billed as a portable, back then.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I recall Roger Glode, our local TV repair man, coming to the house about monthly to make repair after repair. We had 2 double stack long range antennas- one for each station we hoped to get. We got one out of Burlington Vt reliably, but the Plattsburgh NY station was always hit or miss- usually a miss! OTOH, the station out of Montreal came in pretty good- in French!

When living in Detroit, we received the Canadian station, from Windsor.............just across the river. Got all the NHL Canadian hockey games.

All of the Detroit sports team home games were blacked out for only a 60 mile radius. Here in Arkansas, where we don't even have a home team within several hundred miles. St Louis, Kansas City and all of Texas home games are blacked out. :headbang:

Fourteen-years as a television repairman, and, yes, I removed the electronics from many a console and delivered the empty furniture back to the customer.
I have seen more than a few converted to aquariums.

Magnavox made good furniture. As to looters, she said neighborhood_dot_whatever stated someone was going around checking for unlocked houses. Called me and said lock the doors. I said 'good luck' to anyone breaking in while I'm home.

I wouldn’t own such an aquarium.
I did have a fair number of African cichlids.

Speaking of "over the air" television and anntenas, the other day I was talking about a once common activity that is now rare.

How many people remember playing, "Better or Worse"? The game where one person watches the TV inside while another person outside slowly rotates the anntenna while yelling - Better or Worse ? :D
