Loverin plain base = Cheap Shooting

Recently, I plain based a double cavity Lyman 311365 Loverin mould.
My grandson shoots these with 7.3 grs. of Unique in the stainless steel Ruger # 1 , 30-30 Win.
Makes a great training load.
When we get home , a clean patch through the bore and the
rifle doesn't even appear to have been fired.

I like to seat these so the rifling just begins to bite into the nose of the bullet . Not much chance of bullet misalignment :

Fine looking bullets!
I have the NOE version of the 311-465, it has a little meplat. It is a decently accurate bullet in my Howa .308.
Guy Loverin really contributed to the development of our hobby!

I've heard from many shooters, " The faster you shoot a Loverin, the more accurate it is. "

Is this true, I don't know ? ?

I'm sure there's a limit but in general they do seem to shoot pretty good at higher speeds. People used to say the drive bands would strip, that they were too narrow. Probably powder choice and charge plays a bigger factor in that than the drive bands!

There are so many things said that seem to become the " gospel " in this game. Sometimes , it takes a long time for experienced shooters / casters to sort out the truth from the old wives tales.

I remember people saying......." If you have leading, a hard cast bullet will stop the leading ."

i don't know how hard you can go with the 465, but it will take everything the 30-30 can put behind.
it's thee bullet for my 340-A bolt gun, i don't even bother with anything else in it.

I love my 'Loverins'.

I think there is truth in that "The faster, the better" mantra concerning Loverin designs.

#225438 stays accurate to 2400 FPS in my 22 Hornets.

#245496 stays in tight groups to 2000 FPS, and has done so in three 243 rifles.

I haven't given #311467 any love just yet, but now that my eyesight is back that will take place very soon.

Only one of my Loverins is a plain-base version--and it's a fine one--#366408. To 1300 FPS, it threatens 1.25" groups at 100 yards--at least a dozen 5-shotters of 1.3" to 1.5" from the new-to-me mould Don C arranged for me. 250 grains at 1300 FPS is no joke, as anyone with a 38/55 can attest. I don't miss the thunder, lightning, and recoil of full-power loads in that 9.3 x 62. either. 100 of those loads can be enjoyed, rather than endured.
