I bought this one from my friend " Beagle " in KY.
He has a lot of experience with the 222 and 223 shooting cast bullets.
He felt the 225438 would work well in my SAKO , 222 Rem, with its 1 - 14 twist barrel.
The mould arrived today.

I got out and cast about 150 with the mold.
NICE !!!!

Can't wait to send these down range.
The average for 10 ea., lubed, sized , and ready to load, is 44.7 grs.

Very Nice Ben! Yes; Beagle wrote the book ( Sort Of) on shooting the .223 with cast "Why Grown Men Cry"

Beagle is a class act fellow.

He is the kind of guy, " When he speaks, you need to listen." He knows what he is talking about.

That 3 part article of his really got me chopping on the bit to shoot my .223 with cast. I absorbed it…he must be a good teacher because since I started shooting my Remington Sportsman 78 in .223 with cast
I have had no need to cry! I love the part where they started experimenting with hollow pointing those little pills. Nice amount of load data too.
Yours looks like one of those that help produce those articles:)

With the HP, might not be very effective. Wouldn't take much to get this bullet to totally explode.

My 62 gr. 225462 would be another story..................

Here was my load that I fired above:
11.0 grs. Rl 7
Wolf small pistol mg. Primer
Bullet sized .2255 "
Lubed with Ben's Red
Rolled in BLL
Hornady G/C

Ben;
I believe you will be pleasantly surprised how well that bullet works for you. I have a .221 Fireball barrel for my TC Contender pistol. Using the Lyman 225424 bullet cast of linotype and sized at .225 with 4.0 grains of Unique gives me 1/2" groups at 50 yards off a rest. With the flat nose it is near perfect squirrel medicine. I have driven it much faster with excellent results on paper but have not tried it on game at the higher speeds (Ithink of it as squirrel medicine, only...

I have that mold and also the 225415HP. Deadly on PDogs to 125-150. See no reason it would not by on yotes to 100 driven 2100-2200.

I have the mold 225438, seems mine is a bit different than yours, two lube grooves. How old is your mold? Never thought about hollow pointing it but it is an idea. Hhmmm . . .

Quite a difference between RCBS 55 gr mold from years ago and the RCBS 55 gr mold of today also.

The bullet on the left is the old version of RCBS 55 gr, on the right is the RCBS 60 gr from the same era. The bullet in the right picture is the current RCBS 55 gr.

Yep, that's certainly a changed bullet. I wonder which shoots best, the new or the old.

I've had that mold at least 15 years & don't know how long at that time it had been the current style.

Seems like a lot of good things in this old world just can't be left alone....................
