A mould designed for CAS. Two friends were shooing a Uberti repro of an early SAA, with screw base pin retention system and 4 clicks up in Virginia last weekend. One of them had a box of .45 Colt I loaded with 8 grains of Unique. and the 452644. He managed to hit a 6" popper at 100 yards to release the running Moose target a couple of times with not many attempts.
When we got back to our homes there were some frantic phone calls regarding the whereabouts of the 4 cavity mould they had been cast from. I told Big Bird he had it from when he got the Model 97 FA from me. I got the NOE 270 gran SWC from him. The 644 will fit shorter cylinders. Should also make a "big hitter" with the Auto Rim or in ACP cylinders in revolvers with both .45 Colt and ACP cylinders. Plenty of meplat there.
He found the mould and all is well.

At large, whereabouts unknown.
Yes, Lymans version of a 45 Colt Cowboy mould. I almost bid on that one for use in 45 ACP, but I already have enough similar moulds, and I'm actually preparing to sell a bunch of moulds off. Enjoy your mould, it should be a good one.

you have my most favorite mold ever.
45 Colt it is all over the place unless you have a model 1873 lever rifle, or a Browning B-92, all the others are GTG.
works in the Casull and 450 or 45 win. mag too.
it's also a champ paper wrapped in the 45-70 when made from junk soft i dunno lead, for mundane stuff like Deer shooting.

i've run it on top of pretty much everything from Clay's to H-110 when cast from plain old WW type alloy.
it took my first few deer after i moved to Idaho since i didn't have a 'real' hunting rifle and had to use the old 92 or not go.

MUCH EASIER!!!

Mold ran like a swiss watch. Only problems was as my spigot slowed. It likes a full stream otherwise can get minor wrinkles.

I coated in Tool Steel & a mix of grey/Green

I made one dummy to set dies.

If my Gen III SAA didn't have .456" throats I'd have never let mine go. Besides, anytime I'd like to borrow it back I know where it is.

you'd need about 3 coats of powder to get a 664 up to 456.
i've never seen one go over 453.
[i'm sure someone lapped one out somewhere]

I sized mine to .454. I didnt measure but, They was larger then either of the LEE bullets. Both of those sized down to .454 but not by much at all. The Lyman was quite large and noticeably sized down.

Nope, my 4 cavity went to my buddy Big Bird along with a Freedom Arms Model 97. He gave me an NOE 280 grain swc. I forget who designed that one. Some gun writer in Handloader maybe?

Pearce is the only i remember that would have done so.
i do recall him doing some hunting articles with his USFA in 45 Colt....
not even gonna try to remember how long ago that was, long enough back that deer were fairly plentiful though.
