Marlins

Doggone it I know there was a thread talkin' about Marlin and their being inexpensive rifles etc. but I can't find it. I am down to two Marlin lever guns and here they are. A 94 in .38-40 and the Model .39 in .22 with a HS pre-fix on the serial number so it's okay for Hi-Speed ammo.

Well,... I have made the point about them being "cheap guns" in at least two threads in the past several months, so it may not have been part of the original topic. I wonder if it were not the 32 Mag thread going on where you last saw the reference?

And, AGAIN, not to disparage Marlins, as I am personally very much attracted to/affected by "cheap guns" that work.

By the way, those are some really cool levers you have right there.:)

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
And I can recall ads in magaines bragging o the Winchester 94 still being just $99.99. I don't think Marlins were ever "cheap guns". Yes, some of their least expensive rifles, like some 22's, were pretty low priced. But they worked fine. The "cheap guns" were the import guns, the no name clones of some UtS design. I think theres some brand bashing in play. But the same thing applies to other tools. People brag about the N series Ford tractors and how wonderful they are. Well, I've worked on those things and it's surely a case of beauty in the eye of the beholder. VW's, Toyotas and Datsuns used to be viewed as "cheap"...until people figured out they were very good vehicles. No offense to anyone, but there is some snobbery involved here.

I replaced my old Ford 8N with Dearborn front end loader with a Case D40 & FEL. Sure didn’t miss the 8N.

Last Marlin I owned was a 45-70 Guide Gun. A good shooter, but you didn't want to shoot it without ear protection!
