New mold coming!

I have wanted this one for little while. I check the MP Site. I see a number of "nee faces" so if your waiting maybe head over and look.

I ordered a 358-165 rf NLG

This one is a WFN that drops 180 as a solid.

Curious if it actually has that much driving band in front of the crimp.
The 180 actually cast out about 190 and has that large front band.
I have the lube groove version of that mold and it shoots well.
The 165 only has a small front band and it weights 168ish as a solid.
Maybe wrong pic or a shortened version.
Curious minds want to know an as cast weight :)

i would imagine that 'flat' in front of the crimp groove is actually slightly tapered.

I have the grooved version of that bullet, in a 4-cav solid, PB. It is maybe the most accurate handgun bullet in my .35 whelens so far. I also have a similar 180grs HP mould from MP, that will be tested this winter.

Good luck with your new mould!

Thank you! ♥️ I think I remember that thread. You bought like three or four molds and this was a after thought.

Actual dimensions. I agree and think its common but dont know why
It is done. Its the basis of what you need to see if the design is actually what ya want. I like others spec sheets with all exact precise measurements.

At large, whereabouts unknown.
Everything is top secret with ol' Bob. Come to think about it, I don't believe I have any moulds he's designed.

if you have a MP mold or an older NOE you have a high 90% chance of having one.

he once offered to send me any numbers i wanted, but i didn't need any new molds at the time and i've only purchased a hand full of lee 2 cavity molds since then.

there ain't anything wrong with his designs, you just don't know for sure what your getting unless you own the gun he is designing the bullet for.

it isn't easy to make a generic bullet, i've done it and you cannot get it right for them all.

Well, I'm intrigued.

I'm not ready to give up my "piston rings" on the moulds I already have, because the work. I cannot make any firm assertions as to HOW or WHY, but they do.

I started tumble-lubing bullets with traditional lube grooves in the early/mid-nineties, and not having the voluminous grooves filled with grease/wax/whatever, was no detriment. I started buying "Micro-Groove" bullets when Lee offered them and figured out I could tumble-lube them OR run them through the Lyman 45 and they worked either way.

Now that I have started "painting" some of my bullets with PC, I am waiting t see how these shoot with no TL and no grease, but have this superstitious feeling about giving up the grooves. I'll be watching your adventures on this and maybe someday decide on a "smooth" bullet for the 222 - I don't know. I DO know that I like having the option to lube all my bullets either way OR PC them. Lots of flexibility.

I'm very curious about how these many smooth bullets I'm seeing moulds for pan out on the range. Not necessarily skeptical, just curious.

CW, what is YOUR personally perceived advantage in this? Not criticizing or putting anyone on the spot for "proving" anything, but I wonder if there's a hypothesis or theory someone has coined based on these new, and odd-looking things they are putting through their bores. I like the versatility of grooves, and if the ones I've PC'd work out, I'll have three ways I can treat any of my bullets. Wondering if there's an advantage I've not yet learned about in the smooth bullets.

Hello Jeff!

Well this is my second mold that is a slick side design. My first is about a month old. So not hard opinion yet formed.

BUT, I will tell you that these mold literally RAIN BULLETS! The almost EJECT themselves from the cavities!!

Positives,

It is a simpler mold to cut. (Faster/easier should equal lower cost)

Bullets cast quicker and easier.

Accuracy has potential to be better.

Possible negatives.

Obturation should be restricted at least to a point.
Pressures might be increased as well. (How much would be question.)

Powder coating is a wash. No more or less difficult. But in some situations smooth might coat quicker.
Something else I notice is all I have seen, have been plain base molds.

I still haven't taken delivery??? Fedex called me Friday.. but today its back at hub location. I SURE HOPE some brain trust hasn't sent this back. I have not refused it on there direction I stopped delivery and re directed it to local outlet. Im watching tracking and it says "Out for Delivery" Same as it did/was on Friday. So time will tell... But I surely hoping I get this later today.

I also have a slick Accurate 36-310w being cut. (My third)

Considering the combination of how quickly MP ships and the shipping method, waiting 3 extra days is painful. I ordered a couple last summer on a Thursday, had them in my hand the following Monday, dang, almost seemed like, push submit order, go hit the loo, get something to drink, grab a snack and go wait out on the porch.
