MP & NOE Molds

I'd like to cast hollow points for my 9mm. I've seen some reviews on the MP and NOE molds. Does anyone have experience with either of these brands.

NOE hollowpoint moulds can be a bit fiddly in my opinion.
MP hollowpoint moulds are the cats ass.

Not even a real comparison. I have 5 brass MP moulds set up to cast hollowpoints. They all make excellent bullets and the pin setup is about perfection.

The MP molds are from over seas correct? How long did it take for you to receive after your purchase?

MP all the way. My experience with NOE’s HP’s has been pretty rough. Seems like I’m always adjusting pin height.

MP HP molds are no doubt some of the finest ever made. If he has any in stock it would be from an overrun as he doesn't stock molds. They are all from group buys and the last one I was in on took over two years. If he has something in stock that you want grab it while the chance is there.

Changing from flat to hollow point with an MP mould is simple. Dead simple. He even send all the parts and Allen wrenches. And a top punch for the bullet.

Have you placed the order yet? Why not?

another good option is having Erik Ohlen put one of his systems in the mold.
the one he has for the master casters is pretty slick

I bottom pour and do not like the HP retaining system on the bottom of the mould. Have exactly one of NOE's RG moulds and it's the last. Recently signed up for a MP group buy, that went to last call..............will see how long it's going to take. I'm hoping it's here by late summer, so I can use it for the fall hunting season.

Miha has given the green light to run a very popular 44 magnum bullet. The .432/.434 245-250 grain wide flat nose.

This buy is For a MiHec edition of the classic LBT "type" 44 magnum bullet in a popular weight range of 245-250 grains. He is currently working the final design and the attached photo is for reference only. As always he puts his own spin on popular designs.

Options and details . .
1. Mold will be available in 2 Cavity brass Hp, 4 Cavity Brass HP, and 6 Cavity Aluminum Solid only.
2. Available in .432 and .434 diameters (WW).
3. Available in Gas Check or Plain base
4. Available in the Wonderful 6 Cavity Aluminum also.

The intended use for this boolit will my Marlin 1894 carbine. I'm going with .434 diameter. It will be replacing NOE's 265 RNFP solid that I currently use for deer hunting. The last several deer I've shot have given poor to non-existant blood trails.....making recovery difficult to impossible........even with the large meplat designs. I'm basically a bow hunter and as such, I have a strong tendency to aim just to the rear of the front shoulder. Plus, I don't like to damage any more meat than necessary.

The large buck I took a shot at last November morning, I failed to recover. The misses and I, searched for four hours and found not one drop of blood, or tuft of hair, or even a turned up leaf. Shot was about 65 yards. Load was 16 grains of 2400, going 1530 fps. Bullet was 12-13 BHN. Buck was broadside and bucked like a bronco, at the shot. Took off into seven foot tall Johnson grass which I lost sight of, after the first leap.

Spent the majority of the time, looking for sign from the direction he appeared. Then the opposite....when non was to be found. Gave up around noon, temps were heading to the mid 60's and we both had a 2 PM dental appointments.

Well we found the buck, a couple of weeks ago, on one of our woods walks. This ten point went the opposite direction before it collapsed upright about 200 yards away from the shot. BTW, we didn't start tracking until 40 minutes elapsed. Giving the deer plenty of time to lay up.

I'm nearing double digits on the number of MP moulds I have, with one more on the way. The last 2 I have ordered off Miha's website have taken 8 days to arrive. Have one NOE, and not impressed. Won't buy anything but MP from here on out.

I've never owned nor cast with an MP mould, but have 12 NOE now, in brass, aluminum, five of which are the 4 Rg versions. Took awhile to get used to casting and preheating the Rg's , but I'm tickled pink with them so far.

Mihec moulds are from Slovakia. Two week delivery is about the average. Mihec moulds are one of the finest quality moulds. If you're using one of their big block 4 cavity brass moulds you can enter the World's Arm Wrestling Championship after a year of casting with them!!!! I love them!

That's not Johnson Grass in the photo, it's Texas Giant Ragweed, AKA Bloodweed. Sorry you're afflicted with it, it's a major allergen just like it's smaller cousin, and the stalks are hard on shredders.

My last MP mold arrived in 8 days. It must have 'slipped' through customs extra quick, LOL.

I've had several HP molds...and a couple HB molds by NOE and MP.
I had been bitten by the HP (and HB) mold bug when I started casting.
It took a few years, then learned the extra effort wasn't worth it, especially since I had no practical use for them. But I'm not here to talk you out if one. At one time I had near a dozen HP/HB molds, I've since sold all but one. A NOE 41 Keith style that has worked as good or better than any others I owned, plus I am a big 41 fan.

with that said,
The MP hollow point does work extremely well, but those pins need to slide easily. I had one that was stubborn, and had to leave the slide mounts loose (like 1/2 a turn loose) to the pins...then the problem of them working more loose was an issue.
The NOE will work equally well as the MP, when you need to get past all the fiddling as mentioned by Brad. But the mounting can get bumped out of alignment if you rough handle or Whack the handles to drop the bullets.

At large, whereabouts unknown.
NOE HP moulds are a bit too fussy for my tastes. I only own one MP mould, it works okay, but I'm probably not buying any more HP moulds except for my collection accumulation. I just about have my HP drilling setup figured out, and it'll save all sorts of aggravation in the long run.

Your probably seeing some of the Texas Giant Ragweed.......the dark stems. The majority is Johnson grass. an evasive species, no doubt. Grows straight and resembles corn stalks with a tassel like top at maturity. My Echo grass trimmer makes short work of it, as does my self propelled Honda mower.
