New 10mm 1911

Bought a magnum research 1911 in 10mm,,
This is my first bull barrell,,and im surprised how nice the recoil is,,,not much muzzle lift,,,and not much different then 45acp..

Not all 10mm loadings are equal

Most ... SADLY MOST are hot 40s&w Ballistics.

Im just dubbing shooting into a snowbank,,cant wait for spring,so i can get down to my shooting bench,,,love working on loads.

Todays load was 1 grain under max,with hs6 powder,,,seemed pretty powerful.

Power Pistol is my 10mm powder. I was looking at velocities today, 165gr Speer HP, 1350 out of my RIA 1911 10mm. IMO, PP in the 10mm is like Win 296 is to the 44 magnum.

For decades Blue Dot & 800x was me go to heavy load powder. #7 was my "regular" powder.
Last year I tried Power Pistol. Now I can achieve higher velocities @ lower pressures and a more graceful power curve.
My cast 200g has reached 1300+ WITHOUT case head expansion. (I load to about 1225 ish cause it shoots well)
My 175g LEE tc bullet I shoot most is running just shy if 1400 fps and shooting 2" @ 50 yards.

My 160g cast HP is devastating from WW & 10g Blue Dot @ almost 1300 fps. This isnt at all as fast as I can push it. But being a HP there is a point of diminished returns. This load shoots one hole groups from my guns.

#9 is another many folks like. But try Power Pistol. It is forgiving and produces very impressive velocities.

HS6 is a well liked & go to "40" powder. YES, Works fine in the 10 as well, but isnt a powder for top loads. Many, many, powder work wonderfully. But top loads are gonna do best with certain powders.

Also CCI Blazer ammo uses small pistol, not sure if it is all loads or just some. Sounds like CW might pay you to take them off his hands.

Intresting observation,,,this barrell measures .4008,,,and the sizer i have is .4008,,,never run into this before.hope i dont have to lap the die out..

Waited 5 months for a springfield or the ruger,this 1 was found local,,so i snatched it.

Cant wait to start working on loads,,,if the snow would go away!!
