After I had to put down our last to dogs, a Shiba Inu and a Cattle dog, both at the age of fifteen, we waited almost one year to get another dog. We were starting to travel to the lower 48 four extended periods of time, and we were not going to (boarded out) leave a dog, for months at a time. So I wanted another Boarder Collie, and Karyn wanted a smaller dog which would be easier to travel with. Karyn was making since, but, I still wanted a Boarder Collie. We had a B C before these last two, but with a very dominate larger dog. Both males, and the Mic, the B C was the absolute sweetest dog I've ever had. Karyn never got any one on one time with Mic so not quite sure. Mic would always go with me when I would go to Valdez in the winter to check up on the boats about once a month or when it snowed a bunch, which was most of the time. Anyway Mic would be a great companion on the Docks, and staying on the boat. Of coarse we went everywhere together when in Valdez, which was about a 5 minute walk to anywhere just about everywhere Valdez. Big town in the winter. Mostly Mic and I were working on the boats or up at the Club Bar which served great food and beverages. Great, smart, dog.
So I guess Karyn did not want a big dog, and considered a Border Collie large. That's true when considering air travel just to get out of Alaska and then being in a Motor Home which we keep in Washington. But, I wanted a B C as I know how wonderful they are. Smart dogs that want to please are priceless. So I found a B C litter for adoption down towards Anchorage. Long story short, we bought Biscuit and she's perfect, 3 years now. Great traveler.
