One Ounce Lee Slugs 12ga

Here's my question: I have loaded a bunch of 12ga bird shot loads (one ounce) and was wondering if I could open up some and replace the shot with a slug and recrimp? Any problems I would encounter such as pressure differences, ect.?

Shot makes higher pressures than a slug. I've for a long time opened up factory 1oz 12 ga loads, dropped a cork wad in as filler and put in a 7/8 slug. Works just fine.

You could do the same once you figure out how much height you'll need to make up for proper crimps.

You will be fine. I have shot hundreds of lee slugs like this. They are not accurate at all they need some spin on them to work

The 7/8 oz is much more accurate from a smooth bore, it's got a much better FOC and flies true.

Wow!! I posted this question over on SGW and got blistered. As a matter of fact the "super mod" removed my question. I asked for internal ballistic information and that's when the question was removed. Expulsion from the site is probably next.

This is the absolute worst lee mold I ever had displeasure of using.
I finally surcomed to suggestions and contacted LEE about it. Got alotta flack and ended I had to return on my dime. I chalked it to who LEE is and cut losses. Well don't ya know they sent a replacement.
That was NOT MUCH BETTER!!!! Grr.

I was at least able to cast a mayonnaise jug full of useable slugs. But lost interest when I got my first Russian slug mold.

Way back, I had family friends that this was all they used for hunting. Game load bird shot with shot dumped and home cast slug inserted. Factory case/ prime/powder & wad. Not sire if additional wadding was used. They had three boys n two girls plus Mom & Dad. They shot many deer.
