Thinking about options for quick rifle access yet secure and have seen some "overhead racks" that would at least be a bit out of view yet easily accessed.
So what feedback or ideas are ready to be read. Thank you !

For the life of me I cannot remember who made it, but I use to have a two-rifle rack mounted to the cab roof of a 1967 Ford pickup. The rack held two hunting rifles in a pair of "U" shaped brackets (2 sets) with a Velcro strap for each rifle about where the rifles floorplate was. One rifle was loaded/removed to the front and one twords the back of the cab. Something like the old fashion rear window rifle racks but suspended from the pickups roof. Couldn't use the behind the seat setup as that's where one of the fuel tanks was. It was a bit of a pain to load the rack, but it was very secure once they were in it. Also muzzle control could be a real issue just like the old window racks if anyone was on auto pilot at o dark thirty when getting the rifle from truck.

Back when trucks had bench seats (remember bench seats?) a scabbard along the front edge of the seat was perfect. The overhead racks I’ve seen come in two categories – strong enough to be trusted but require a fair amount of headroom and are not cheap OR so flimsy that you would always be nervous with a rifle of two suspended over your head.

The old vinyl covered steel window gun racks were good for this back in the day when it was steel above the visors. I cut the rack down for one gun,(two pieces )drilled a new mounting hole in each one, then mounted them to hold the rifle or shotgun above the visors in my 64 Ford truck.
An Irving police officer said “That’s Purty damn neat!” after he asked if I had a gun during a traffic stop. I had an Italian folding .410 O/U in the rack.

Those seat covers with the scabbard along the front edge were great, but almost impossible to find now. As P&P pointed out, the overhead racks you could trust rob you of too much headroom: even as a teenager I had to lean sideways or hit my head on the darn things.

I had one of the Big Sky brand gun racks in the farm truck. I dont have the farm anymore or the Rack!

I think I have some dents in the top of my head from hitting potholes and banging my head on the upswing.

Before I got the rack, I cut the leg out of a pair of jeans and suspended it behind the seat with leather bootlaces......for a shotgun.
