Plain base bullets??

All my molds for rifle are GC. Most of my pistols have matching carbines, so what I tend to do is order a custom mold with half the cavities checked.

I'm also a hunter so gas checked molds allow for using a much softer alloy with a margin of error built in.

I don't/won't powder coat.

I also don't do low node shooting.

Well, I'm with you up to not doing low node shooting. Looking at it, I shoot way more paper than game and it's nicer to do that wuthout the noise and recoil and expense. Does't take much to perforate paper.

That's what 22 LR is for.

...Very surprised to see that MW65 has had success in milsurps. Can you please elaborate on your success stories, ie. caliber, twist rate, alloy, accuracy? Thanks.
Of course! Best said in pictures... but oversized, lla or bll equivalent, speeds at 1100ish, but up a bit higher at times...

I'm not talking moa groups here... most of my fun involves hitting silhouettes out to 200. Show me a consistent MOA garand, and I've got some oceanfront properties in Arizona for you cheap!! But a service grade garand does shoot well, same with sks... or an 03a3... I'm a big fan of the guard load redux put out by Ed Harris... lee 155gr @ .311, no check, over a fast powder in 30govt06... or rcbs 30-180. Lube with elk snot (or lla/bll equivalent) liquid alox blend, push at a 22lr velocity... gets me used to the manual of arms, sights, trigger, weight... so when I get ready for something like my standard silhouette load, it's easy for me to transition... hope that helps!!! Andy

Btw, alloy is my softball lead... range scrap sweetened with an ingot or two of hardball. Not very finicky...

The more I see and read, makes me think about getting a plain base mold.
I'm waiting for warmer weather to do
some shooting..
I see NOE has one that cast one of each..Hummmm
I never tried it but the Loverin #245496 would be an ideal candidate for PB shooting since the GC shank is so small.

What do you consider "work great" Jim? Can you shoot MOA at 100 yds with them? I'm talking rifle here, not pistol
yup they don't work in rifles especially mil surps, this aint the only group or gun

I don't think you'll be sorry. I know Winelover said he's just as soon shoot a .22 lr when it comes to low powered loads, but I really enjoy shooting a centerfire from eighty to a couple hundred yards at knock down targets. Doing so off hand is a challenge, but one really quickly improves to about 70%, then comes small improvements. When you start consistently hitting 8 out of 10 you are really getting into pretty rare company as a rifleman. It is a perishable skill but you can retrieve it fairly quickly.

Get a like minded shooting buddy and stand side by side taking turns at 5" diamonds at 80, 6 and 8" discs at 160', the NRA chickens at 200. That is the kind of shooting I truly enjoy. Cast loads in the 1,100 to 1,700 fps range can get you there. Plain base can do the 1,100 well into the 14's for certain, we have done it. Mild recoil, modest muzzle blast, no leading. Treat the bore like a .22 rimfire.

Six inch diameter black psper plates are my standard target for such shooting. Poured an awful lot of that midsouth soupcan 7mm bulley and 700x throu my Chilleno sporter shooting woth improvised field positions at those things.

Dan don't P.C... LOL

Johnny.
remember what i said about a system?
low node shooting has it's own section here for a reason.
many of the regular cast bullet parts and pieces still apply, but your going into a different program, and you'll need to look in a different rabbit hole for the little stuff.

it's the little stuff that screws you every time you over look it.
