Pointing an Accurate mould

I didnt shorten mine but reamed the bases. (LEE 309/230) MUCH improved accuracy. I haven't had a profile hole or even a noticed tail wag since!

My Accurate mold would not cast round bullets. I started checking and using a ground 123 block, could see daylight across the 4 cavity mold. I began lapping the halves, I did not remove the pins, wish I knew how they were put in, but worked both surfaces until I could not see any light between them. Last casting proved they were casting much better that before, half the round-out in diameter than before.

Taking a piece of stock, then boring a bunch of holes, and expecting them to not warp, is not good practice. Metals need to relax after work. I wish I could have removed the pins to lap, I would have a great mold.

Lapping it was a mistake, the outside cavities will be elliptical, and you lose part of the vent line depth. I have many 4C Accurate molds including brass and have only warped one brass one by accidentally heating it over 500F in my mould oven, so I'm going to say your case was user error and not Tom's fault. You can un-warp them with a press, some ground plates, and shim stock, or by making relief kerfs opposite the concave side. The pins are pressed in and can be pressed out with a ground or milled and drilled support plate and close-fitting punch which has been relieved for the parting nib.

Well, the Accurate is better but still yawing from the 10-twist .308. Three 5-shot groups tight windage but ridiculously sensitive to powder charge as variance of 1/10 grain =1.5" vertical and 40-50 fps up or down. In a bad node for the system, bullet a bit heavy as no problem with same thrown charges and a slightly lighter bullet.

Tried the bobbed Lee with a lighter charge of powder, grouped an inch nice and round but still tipping badly. Scratching my head.

Thinking about milling the Accurate mould down to about 220 grains, might fix yawing AND bad barrel node?

seating depth?
nodes are pretty easy to change, but just as easy to jump right over the next and come right back to where you were again.
if your constraining yourself on speed then the jump to the barrel is probably the easiest one to change, followed by a primer swap.

Actually, after I lapped the mold halves, they cast a much "rounder" bullet than before, about as good as my Hoch molds. Checking bullets from all 4 cavities showed no difference. User error?
