image.jpg Well the shop is all cleaned up now so I thought I would do a little casting. I haven't shot my Cimmarron "Evil Roy" in awhile. I had no 45 Colt bullets on hand. I got the RCBS pot up and running around 700 degrees and away I went. Only cast 150 or so but it has been awhile and I had lots of fun doing it. Any day casting is a better day than a work day, right? I've had good luck with this billet over 8.0gr of Universal. These will be sized to just slip through the cylinder throats. .452"
I just put a fresh stick of BAC in the 450. I believe there was some 2500 in there before. Now to just load some up and try to go shooting before I have to go back to the salt pit!

What a great mold RCBS makes, if only we could convince them to make 4 cavity molds. If we could I would have far fewer MP/NOE molds that are duplicates of already owned RCBS molds including the 45 270 SAA. A bullet that my BH/Bisley really likes.

I agree Rick. I forgot how nice this mold was to use. I forgot how much I prefer iron mold. This molds drops ACWW bullets at just about .454"
A four cavity would be awesome! Too bad RCBS doesn't see things that way.

I don't make it a habit to shoot other peoples reloads but I couldn't pass this deal up. A guy I work with was selling off some of his late uncles stuff. Among the stuff was 1200 loaded 45 Colt rounds in Brand new RP nickle cases. Store bought bullets (cast) All in 100 round MTM ammo boxes.$100 all in!
I pulled a total of about 15 rounds from all the random boxes. All had 6gr of some sort of pistol powder. They ended up being a very mild load with decent accuracy. I'm still chewing through all the ammo. I thought I'd clean up some of the brass and load some of my own. I'm not sure of the value but $100 for just that much brass would have been a steal!

That was a nice post. My Mihec molds for the RCBS 45-270-SAA offer arguably the best bullet ever for the .45 Colt. I have both a Ruger Bisley Vaquero and a Ruger SS Bisley .45 Colt/.45 ACP convertible. Both shoot exceptionally well with the bullet (well under 1" at 25 yards off a rest). My typical load is 8.5 Grs. of Unique. This makes for a superb field load IMHO. I could load a lot hotter but these days, standard .45 Colt power takes care of my needs.

Never felt handicapped using RCBS 2 Cavity molds......I would just use two molds and cast alternately. You could use two the same or, in my case, one each of vastly different sizes. Like 45 LC and 38/357.....easier to separate the boolits, after the casting session.
