Reloading Manuals...

I imagion we all have many. I have been collecting the older Lymans and Ideals for decades. There is still a few I dont have.

I was always pretty good on the jacketed manuals too. I have a hundred 6.5/06'snonnthe bench and know its not a common one and only A-square loads it and no one carried or chambers for it but there is scarce little data printed. Nosler has had data for a few years dropping it in current for the Grendel 26 Nosler and 6.5 PRS data.

Reading some online sources I understand the 6th Hornady has data. I went to my book case... Lo and behold no Hornady 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th manuals!! What was I doing those years!?!?! I have two 2nd's and a third and fourth then 9,10 & 11th.

Noslers, I believe have them all. Barnes I also have them all (maybe not last one) They are VERY EXPENSIVE!!! I think they are only on line now. Speer is another I have kept current with and Sierra is another thats online only now. I have last couple on phone. Hornady also does online but requires a purchase or subscription. Hogdon has been in magazine format for over a decade but I have some hard cover of theres. Lyman and Ideal I of coarse have. But a few "holes" from the very oldest ones.

Looking last night in eBay, I was able to pick up the Hornady 6th and 1st (after thought, bought for its cost) Wow folks are proud of these manuals!!!! Most are 50+$!!! Most Hornady 1st are 40$ +!!! In looking I found a good 40$ price for a 6th edition set & this first edition came up for 20$ so for 67$ I have both coming to me shipped.

On another note, what was your first manual? Mine was Speer

Anyhow. Im just curious if you guys also keep these old manuals. Either for reference or regular use. Personally, I have a couple book cases upstairs loaded with "gun / hunting /Fishing books" and some reference manuals are there but most are in a closet and all current are at my finger tips in my loading room brass cabinet top shelf center.

I haven't looked to see but curious what the Handloader magazines are going for these days. I have a complete set of the paper books from #1 thru the late 90's. After that most are on CD.

I love picking up the old ones because they have data on cartridges and projectiles not found in the newer books.

I have no idea what I have now. Been buying up all the old ones I find as many of my previous copies were ruined in the shop fire. Some actually survived with just slightly burned binding.

Yeah I have the Hornady, Speer, Barnes, Nosler, and pretty good on Lyman from the 60’s forward, From there it gets spotty on Lyman and Ideal. Plus P. O. Ackley, Belding & Mull, Pacific and others that I pickup when the opportunity arises. I also have the library of gun and hunting books up stairs, the ones I haven’t looked at in years.

why they went from real book bindings to the stupid spiral plastic is beyond me. I know it was to save money, but…

plus a couple of bankers boxes full of Handloader and Rifle mags up till early 2000’s. I’m always looking something up…

I have Dad's and a few odds and ends .
My personal first was the 5th edition Shot shell manual . The 6th has all the non-toxic data in it . It was followed by "The Status of Steel" in 94' .
The Speer #12 came with the RCBS kit in 97' .
PO Ackley handbook for shooters and reloaders 1964 printing.
Dad had a Sierra manual I think was prebinder and zip spiral bound . I have a long unupdated binder edition that wasn't his .
I have the 1968 first edition spiral bound Hornady manual along with 74',82', and 9?' printings .
3?, 43 , 48 ,50th editions of the Lyman's. I gave the 47th to a friend.
4th Edition CBH also .
1968 Herters reloading manual
Waters 1&2 complete 2012 printing and the Notebook.
"The complete manual " for 9mm and 45 Colts . The Colts was a let down with little Ruger Data , I have loose sheets of data not included for H110 and stuff in the Ackley handbook .

I forgot to mention the magazines!

I have gotten Shooting times since the early 1980's and have been able to acquire more from early '70's fprward. I worked many years in printing a d was able to copy all articles on specfic calibers. Putting together two manuals for me. One Handgun and other Rifle calibers.
Id like to do same with Handloader and Rifle but just keep full magazines.
I Should subscribe to "LOAD DATA". But I dont.

I had a fellow on FB ask to buy my 1970 copy after I posted some 401 powermag data for him.
I wouldn't part with mine. He says he couldn't find anything out there (internet), but I found him one at Abe's books...$30

I know the Winchester books aren't very big but got this one yesterday. Dated 1975. I find boxes of old bullets but no load data. This book fits the bill!

Have all the Speer except number two, all the Hornady all the way back till when they were Pacific and all the Sierra, all the Nosler, Barnes, Lee's, various Accurate, Hodgdon, Lyman's and various other tomes. I buy the annual Hodgdon magazines mostly for the new cartridges and powders. I used to have Handloader from the late 1970's early eighties up till around 2005 or so. But a split washing machine hot water line finished those as well quite a few other periodicals I had on wire racks. Possibly somewhere there are some of the giveme annual powder and reloading guides that use to come from Hodgdon, Winchester and others back in the day. If you study them, you begin to realize that as far as cartridge development goes there really isn't anything new under the sun, despite all the advertising hype.

Yeah I don’t think I need a new manuals as I’m not interested in the newer cartridges for the most part and I’m stocked on older powders. If I need newer information at some point I’ll hunt it up

Yeah Ric can I come paw thru your library? I’ll warn you up front that I’ve been known to wear bulky clothing which can hide good size books. Usually the limiting factor is weight..
Next time you're down this way. I have many pounds of Rifle and Handloader for some one who wants them.

CW, if you can access the old Handloader mags there is an article entitled "The 65.-06, A Poor Mans Magnum". That's where I got all my data for my 6.5-06. Sadly, the shot out looking barrel was in fact, shot out!

I have a mess of manuals, lots of old ones. And I'm slowly collecting Rifleman mags from the 30's through the 60's. I've got all of them from about 1972 on, but the older ones had more meat and lots less advertising via articles.

Damn Ric just read your post (obviously) and Bret’s and I was going to post here that if someone would want to pay shipping I have those to bankers boxes full and would send them. Down sizing.

CW.
rifle shooter fall of 2019 has 6.5 data for the 0-6.
they done a 6.5 special and included the nosler, grendel, Jap, italian, and the 0-6.
they even had a bit of data for the WSM and SAUM wildcats.

I _think_ my first manual was an old Lyman--maybe the orange one(?). Don't want to think about how many I have now.

I think I've pretty much gotten over my magazine habit. . . then I remember I'm trying to assemble sets of Double Gun Journal, Black Powder Cartridge News, and Precision Shooting. I don't see many of any of those at the gunshows around here, so I pick up a few on the 'bay when I'm feeling flush with cash. So yeah, not often!
