Ruger 3 screw 44mag locks up

It slides fine. Goes in and out fine. But when it slides forward out of the rear frame the cyl tilts and locks up. I found what fell out and hit my finger. It was a piece of lead from the cyl tilted and fired. I was shooting some old Speer half jackets. You could see where it splattered lead on the face of the cyl.
You have your answer :)

Was bored tonite so I made a cross pin to hold the base pin in. I turned the pin down to pass through the hole. I then made a aluminum sleeve that had a undersize hole. I did this to be able to tap it on over the cross pin and hold everything in place. Super easy to take apart when I get the correct parts in. But this should work till then. Going to try to get back out to the farm and try it tomorrow. I sized up about 50 cases tonite to load up tomorrow before I go up there. I know one thing I do not like steel pistol dies.

And another ? anyone use GFL brass? That stuff sized and expanded way harder than the FC and Rem brass. I have shot and reloaded their rifle brass and that has been fine. But this was the first time using pistol brass.

Base pin latch and spring and nut are missing. Anyone have a clue on where to get this stuff? Factory discontinued the parts on the old model but are available for the new model. Would these work?
Look under the seat of the farm truck. Then Ebay if you can't find the pieces.

All the parts came in today. Got it put together like it is supposed to be. Took it out to the range real quick to see if it holds together. Shot 3 cyl full. I know remember why I don't like the grip on these. Shot perfect.

I also shot the new 22rf SA Wrangler. Just one cyl full. It was getting dark and could not see exactly where it was shooting so will have to try again soon.

I haven't found a stock set that makes a S&W double action fit my hand well. The target grips on the K-38 clone come close. The grip that fits me the absolute best is the frame of the 1860 Army percussion revolver. I got my FIL's steel-frame 1873 clone fitted with a steel grip frame from the 1860, a Taylor & Co. special, it's my favorite revolver of all time. Different strokes.

Ever tried the retro combat style K frame grips from Ahrend's Grips?

Ian,

Try to find an old set of Herretts Shooting Stars. I have them on Ruger Security-Six 6", S&W K-38 & S&W M1917.
The Tyler T-grips add a lot with stock S&W grips too. Not for SA's.

S&W K-frame round butt with the Tyler T-grip adapter is perfect for short fat hands. Big hand guys need not apply. Best for the 2 1/2 Model 19 I used to have and shot way too hot of loads in.

I know an N-Frame is not a K-Frame, but both of the N-Frames I had went down the road mostly because they didn't fit me. I think this would have made the difference. Wonderful, beautiful guns though.

Oddly, the very best grip fit I have ever found on a DA for ME is the Rossi rubber grips which are skinnier at the bottom than the top.

I have two current favorites. The rubber grips on the S&W Model 60-10 ( Houge?) and the 625 round butt wood “gunfighter “ grips.

I forgot one and have to admit that the Houghes which came on the Taurus 5-shot, 357 Model 605 I got recently are a VERY good fit. The exposed back strap makes a huge difference.

Good show TB!!

Ya some dont like that movement in the hand but its the design of a SAA plow frame.

Pachmayer used ta make and IINM Hogue still does make a grip to change that and make it act like a DA revolver. Like Walks suggested a ol school Herretts stocks too.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I'm not a single action guy. There was never one made that fit my hand.
Same here. I can get by, but they just feel weird. Why make a grip that's skinny where your fingers are long and fat where they're short? Just backwards for me.

I have a pair of Pachmayrs for the Ruger NM Blackhawk/Single-Six grip frame and a pair of Herrett Shooting Stars for the Super Blackhawk grip frame. The Packs fit My hand fine, but because of the rubber like composition they do NOT roll up in the hand under heavy recoil.
The Herretts are just too big even for My giant meat hook paws. I suppose I could take a rasp to them, but they are just too nice a pair of grips to do that to.

I'll stick with the SA style. I like it best.

My 686 wears Hogue fingergroove Goncalo Alves grips, it's an early square butt that my friends have been lusting after for ages. Switching over to my Redhawk, I have to use the factory "splinter" grips, they're the only grips that fit my hand on that frame, and I've tried everything. Seriously. I may call Herretts and discuss custom options with them. Part of the issue is that 7-1/2 inch Redhawks balance poorly for me because of the long barrel. I don't want to go to a different one because it's one of the first Redhawks built and has a 3 digit S/N.

Best grip for me has been the wood grip on the Ruger Match Champion in 357mag.

It has a pachmayer grip on it already. Still don't like how it recoils in the hand. Maybe if I don't shoot full power loads it would be different????

I like the Ruger single action grips frame. Then again I like the stock rubber/wood grips on the GP100 and SW K frame grips too.

I have very slender hands and long enough fingers to make them work.
