One of those things I've been meaning to try.
I finally grabbed a can of Ballistol to see what the hubbub was regarding that concoction. Doesn't smell exactly BAD, but not something I'd get nostalgic about smelling. Weird stuff. I finished up with a couple iron moulds yesterday and saw the can sitting there. What the heck? I smeared some on the warm moulds and it congealed. Wiped off the excess today and will monitor over time. Curious mostly how easily it cleans off later. Rubbed it all over my favorite axe a week ago and use it today and no ill effects. The handle felt good - shiny, smooth, no residue. No gunk on the head. I'm as picky with my axes as my guns. Waiting to see if it dissolves deciduous sap.
I've read good things about Eezox from people I trust, so I do want to try it for rust prevention some time.
Someone did mention using it (or something) with steel wool in the thread about what we smear on our moulds for storage recently - I think.
