that's a tiny weld.
you'd probably have to spot-stitch it just to keep the warpage down to a minimum.
i'd be real leery of a filler weld, the heat migration.... even with heat sink paste [shhttt]
i still think the in/out threaded insert is the way to go.
epoxy it in place.
just like a heli-coil.

Looks like an excellent gun to be left out as a decoy to limit the losses in a burglary.
