good lord.
i don't think any of my reels even hold 200 foot of line.
Salt water generally means deeper fishing and larger fish.
I recently picked up a new fishing rod. Its made by a hobbiest with best available components. The blank was made by Shimano and is featured in there "flagship" (there terminology) rods. Its 7' and heavy action. Its quite stiff but still slender and light weight. Anyhow, I wanted a "better" reel for it. I choose Penn's Spinnfisher VI largely for cost as they just released the VII and retailers are offering the VI for about 1/3-1/2 from orig retail. AND as Im learning the 7 "isn't all that" and people are not satisfied and tge last of the "6" are seeing unprecedented sales... Anyhow I say all that (yes I'm boastin' and proud of this setup.
) Because I choose a 6500 size. Now as these get bigger (many manufacturers do too) the "gear case" doesn't get bigger. So this is the second "size" on this case. Meaning tgey make the 5500, 6500, 7500 and 8500 reels on same gear case. The change is the "head" where the spool is and attaches. So line capacity. Im not knowing all but the 5500 is about 300/12lb 6500 is 390/12lb and 7500 is about 435/12lb, and so on.
I have switched to braid some 10-12 years back. If ya are not fermilular, it is thinner stronger and zero memory as mono has in spades. BUT its costly at up ta 20¢ a yard.
Most run a backer so only spool 1-200 yards of the better costlier line.
