Some years back, I seen a few Thailand ebay sellers of "handmade by craftsman" S&W grips.
Back then, I wanted some K frame grips for 3 guns I had, that came with rubber grips.
Before I ordered any, I posted about these Thailand grips on the other site and subsequently
another bullet caster offered me some sweet NOS factory grips in a swap, so I never ordered any.
A year ago, I just missed out on a set of lightly used Altamont "Round Butt conversion" grips for N frame.
I didn't even think something like that existed. While I am not a big fan of Altamont grips, I was thinking
the Conversion grips would be just the thing for my 625JM, as I am not happy with the original JM grips
it came with, or the RB Nframe Rubber Pachmayrs that I scored at a gunshow. I'd really prefer the Sq butt feel.
Today, I wondered down the ebay rabbit hole and found the Thailand ebayers have not only came out with
the conversion, they are also making some grips that are universal RB/SB. I'm a little leery of the universal ones,
but I am liking my options for a RB conversion.
I made an offer on these fishscale checkered cokebottle-like Target grips.
well it's not really fish scale, but it's somewhat like that,
maybe even better, as they look less aggressive than the fishscale Altamont's that I have on a Ruger.
I stole these photos from ebay.
This seller seeming is posting photos of a specific set of grips on each of
his listings. I am hoping I get these specific grips, as I like the color shade
and grain and knots.
all the Altamont grips I handled that were mounted on S&W guns have been
a bit more loose than I like. I had a newer Mod 29 that was loose enough
that I shimmed the grips. Looking as this photos, I suspect I may be doing the same.
but at least these are about half the price of Altamonts, so a little work
is no biggie...like buying a Lee 2 cav mold, LOL.
Also, these seem to have some palm swell, which I like. The Altamont
target grips do not have that.
Lastly, I am reasonably sure I will need to mod these grips for use of Moon
clips on my 625JM...the area just below the S&W logo...but there looks to be
plenty of wood to work with.
