The NOE mold temp. monitor

For those of you that have used the NOE monitor. Has anyone else had a problem with the probe that they just up and quit working. So far I have gone through 2 probes. And either have to get another. Or get a different monitor. Mine seem to only last a 1/1.5 years.
I never let hot bullets or splatters land on the probe cord. I always run it under my tripled rag that I drop bullets on.

Never had any problems with mine BUT I don't use it on the mold. I use a 1/2 inch thick aluminum plate on my hot plate and I drilled that for the probe and monitor the mold pre-heat. After the mold pre-heats I then cast as usual.

.23 cents Rick, wow!!!! Reminds me of my first pay raise as a Marine Private during the Eisenhower administration. Don't remember exact figures, but it was something like .44 cents, and it raised me (just barely into a notch higher tax bracket). Bottom line, it cost me about 9 or 10 cents overall at tax time. Made less than 1000.00 a year, but it was taxed.

I've never used a mold temp monitor...I assumed it was only used to monitor the temp during preheat. If you were to keep the probe in the mold block during casting, wouldn't the movement (of the cord) and tapping (vibrations on element) during casting be real hard on the probe?

Obamacare:
Minnesota's rules for their state healthcare programs have been good to me, but I suspect Minnesota will be broke soon.

Have done some casting with a TC in a couple molds and thus far haven't had any problems. Just using an inexpensive one off ebay. But on the other hand I've not cast that many either I guess, hundreds not thousands of em'.

My mould temp monitor needs a new AA battery about once a year. I know this when the second hand is stuck at the half-hour position and just sort of twitches.

I have the same problem as Ian.
I usually solve it with some 50-100 BPM sounds to keep things moving along.

your gonna have a Dang hard time beating Al's warranty though.

I love companies like Al's. Customer service like that is hard to find. Good on you Al.

I use music to help with a cadence but not what those two listen to. One is a bit obtuse for me and the other is just plain weird. I will stick to classic rock, thank you very much.

No kidding on the warranty.

Armin Van Buuren usually runs his shows up to 140 or so, and it so happens that's about right for casting .22s. Tried some dubstep once, wow that really screwed me up for the whole evening.

I like Tiesto/Deadmau5 they keeps things moving along without getting carried away.
I can keep the pace just about right without going too fast.
the bullets seem to pile up on their own accord.

I consider classic Rock as stuff from the 80's. [anything before that is the wheelchair tour and played out]
men at work, Poe, Def Leppard, and midnight oil all have good beats to keep the Lyman 4 cavity molds going along without any Drama.

Judging from some of these replies...I am a little concerned about peoples driving skills...easily distracted are we?...:):):)

No problems to report with the probe after about 1.5- 2yrs of continuous use....love it...

no but you gotta admit Ian gyrating around to the Dub step with a hot mold full of melted lead does bring a smile to your face.

At least I don't cast in just my underwear anymore just to keep from having a heat stroke. Got an indoor setup with air conditioning! And no stopping every 30-45 minutes to flip or change the vinyl. Back in college I used to ladle-cast bullets just about every other weekend in the dead of night over a propane range, wearing nothing but my drawers and pink t-shirt sleeve on my head to keep the sweat and hair out of the lead. Somehow I could never seem to cast enough during the cool months to keep up with my shooting all year. Back then I listened to a lot of JJ Cale, Dire Straits, Doobie Brothers, Tijuana Brass and even Chuck Mangione, basically whatever was cheap to free but not too scratched up at yard sales.
