Useful new target camera system

I haven't checked the price on this, has to be pretty pricey, but pretty neat, too.

Checked the price. 300 yd version is about $300. One mile range system jumps up
to $650, although one supplier had it for $600.

I would want a small hunk of AR plate between me and the camera downrange.

Yes, the wife said the same thing.

One cool addition. This video was shot at my club range. This is the 200-300 benchrest
range, we have a bunch more, but the drone shot is pretty cool. The building to the right
is the club house, the building directly behind the range is used for big meeting, large match
events, club swap meets, vendor setup for national benchrest matches, mostly empty.
You can barely make out the overhead roofs for the 25 and 12 yd ranges behind.

I was just looking at the camera system and was surprised to find where the video was shot.

Looks like a useful tool, esp for shooting at longer ranges where the travel time to check targets
gets to be a pain and even really good optics will not find shots in the black most days.

Having a 300 yard capability makes it more useful. Eliminates the need for either pits or a bunch of trips downrange.
I like the interface too. Being able to mark shots for different groups and number them is a plus.
Nice looking facilities Bill. A good gun club is a nice thing to have. We are fortunate with ENGC to have a great place to shoot.

Yeah, it seemed like a pretty nice system. I will be thinking about getting one.
Probably get some armor plate, too, if I do get it.

Why? To keep the camera from taking a bullet. If it is downrange then it needs protection or risk acquiring a hole. I bet even a 30 cal cast bullet at 1000 fps would be devastating to the system.

I didn't think of it, being a trusting person, but my wife immediately said "Some idiot will shoot it."

Given the relative cost of a chunk of AR500 1/4" plate and the camera system, point well
taken.

I am lucky to have access to a good range facility. I can shoot in my back yard but haven't yet put up a
berm and shooting bench, etc. Having the range 4 miles away is a bit of a deterrent to finding enough
round tuits to get my range done. And it will only be out to 100 yds, anyway.

That idiot may well be the owner! Look at how many chronographs are killed each year.
A bit of AR plate is cheap insurance.

My brother and I have looked into several different versions of this system and products similar from other companies. Shooting at a mile it takes a fair amount of time to walk down the hill then drive a real crappy road were you can only go about 10mph. By the time you go check the target and come back you have burned about 45min.
I don't understand your concern. Why the AR plate?
BTW; very nice range Bill.
The AR plate would be used to set in front of the camera system so you don't accidently shoot it.

OK, I misunderstood your reply, I thought you were concerned about getting hit yourself. You said "I would want a small hunk of AR plate between me and the camera downrange." I now know you meant between the camera and the target, or a shield to protect the box from an errant shot.

He did mean between him and the camera. The plate would set directly behind the camera so it didn't take a bullet by accident.

Yep. I want a plate between the camera and the firing line. I'm not worried about a richochet, I'm worried about a direct hit.

My boss uses a drone for checking 500-yard target. One time he just hung it from a nearby tree limb and only used the camera, which made the battery last all day. Might be an option for those who have camera drones already.

IMO, the owner shooting it is extremely unlikely, it is 4-5 ft below the target, at least in this
situation. There may be other situations where it is closer, and an AD is always a possibility.
Better to armor expensive gear when it is downrange.
