What depth do you all use seating a Saeco 315

Sorry i haven't got back to the questions about the Saeco 315 bullets, I've been busy with takeing care of my brother, had 4 vertabret fused in his neck 2 weeks ago and our business, Now ready to start loading and testing the 315 in my Tika 308 win
From what i can tell so far they start touching the lands at 2.616 and that seams way down in the case neck. That would put the GC inside the case with only the driving band to hold the tenstion
Bullets drop from the mold at .312-.3125 and i have some sized to .310 and .311
I know all rifles are different but what do those of you that use this bullet seat yours at and do you use a lite crimp to hold this ?
Going to start with Unique powder and hope to find some 2400, read lots of good thing about it being NOT case sensitive so any starting loads would help too. Going to run these from 1600 fps to maybe 1850 fps
Hope to have some good reports on it by monday night

Thanks,Steve

I seat mine until they stop marking the front drive bands when they are chambered.

I shoot mostly single shot rifles, I only remove the slight flare that I put on the case. I don't crimp.

For me or anyone else to tell you to seat yours to an OAL of 2.^&%$ means absolutely nothing. Your cast bullet dimensions, your chamber, throat, and leade are most likely quite different than anyone else's rifle. This will call for some trial and error work on your behalf and several shooting sessions waiting on your particular rifle to TELL YOU WHAT IT LIKES.

I generally follow Ben's regimen for setting bullet seating depth with cast bullets in rifles. More specifically, I want the bullet's ogive or leading edge of front drive band in fairly firm contact with the throat leade, but not to the point of engravement. Hope that makes sense.

"Working conditions" for the cartridge can modify this regimen. In my hunting arms or any other venue where magazine fit or feed reliability becomes a priority, I will opt to make the ammunition fit and feed over trying to strain every last 1/10" of grouping ability from a combination. I am not a pure target shooter--my focus is upon hunting prep/practice and defensive prep/practice. I'll take all of the accuracy I can muster, and more often than not I don't have to choose between optimum seat depth vs. feed reliability or mag fit.

I have specifically designed a few bullets to "Have It All"--one in particular is the 270 grainer I use in my CZ-550 in 9.3 x 62. 70% meplat, tangent ogive that kisses the leade gently with gas check seated right at the neck/shoulder junction. It feeds from the magazine so seated with aplomb. After launching about 2500 of these downrange between 1400 and 2200 FPS--and having most 5-shot groups hit at 100 yards under 1.5"--I feel pretty good about the overall outcome. Finally, when you can shoot a big game caliber rifle to almost full power with home-made soft-point bullets costing 12 cents each--and a total cartridge cost (excluding brass) of about 25 cents each--it is quite satisfying.

I will throw out a number, in all of my 1903's and 1903a3's two and four groove plus one star gauge, I seat the 315 to 3.260".

My bullets are sized to .311.

3.260 would be a pretty good challenge for him and his .308 Win.

Not about to "go there", Sylver. Things could degenerate rapidly.

well chambering the round would for sure re-seat the bullets to the proper oal.
