Got an old Lyman .424 round ball moul in a trade years back. Bumped it and made some two ball .44 Mag loads and they shoot all right. Just wondering what it was intended for./beagle

the 41 Henry uses a 423 diameter bullet weighing 225grs.
3 of the 4 40-40 maynard's could use it.
other wise i'm guessing special order for a '41' cal. black powder rifle.

Lyman say's nothing about it even existing in their black powder manual.

Back when the "Golden Days" of muzzleloading were the normal shooting routine, many rifle and / or pistol smith's produced innumerable bore diameters. They usually sold a mold with the firearm.
Over time, molds got lost.... and Lyman would years back, following the lead of Ideal, cut a RB mold to most any desired diameter. Custom mold price was charged but Ideal and Lyman then had that diameter cutter on the shelf.

Must not have been all that rare. I see that size on EBay all the time.
