Why did I shoot #5?

I'm about fed up with my Contender. Too many reasons to list. It might go up on the chopping block.....

List them. If we can't talk you through them I'll direct you to "THE" T/C Smith. The only smith the factory ever sent free parts to (not any longer though) in order to keep the guns out of the warranty shop.

The 10" 30-30 barrel has a very tight chamber. I know, this is not the norm. Everything is ok with .308 jacketed bullets. Try seating a .309" or larger cast bullet into that barrel? No way. I have to turn necks to get them to chamber. I can live with this one.

The 14" .44 Mag barrel I got in a trade is my real pain in the a$$

It likes to fly open when you fire it....... I have read some on the subject over at Mike Belm's page. I'm just not very confident in my own ability to address such problems. I've been a bit leery to try to fix the problem myself. It's just frustrating.

So, I guess it's not really a problem with my TC, just a couple problematic barrels....

That's why I shoot 10 + groups.......... the main hole just gets bigger and those satellites have very little meaning!!!
I think Paul ; khornet will agree!
20 into a ragged hole with few out there means some "S__it" happened but it isn't all that important!:D

The flying open is the bolts. It is a simple fix but if you would rather not tackle it yourself . . .

Shoot Jim an email and describe the problem. I don't know if Jim has a 30-30 throat reamer, I think so but ask. If you decide to have Jim fix the problems you will need to send the frame and ALL of your barrels, he will match all of the barrels to your frame. Yes, I know the barrels are supposed to be interchangeable but in reality . . . Not so much, they should be matched.

All of this will probably be far cheaper than you would think and turn around time is very good. Shipping will probably be more than the work. I recommend Jim's work without reservation, the man is a perfectionist. He won't return a gun until he's happy with the work and I assure you if he's happy you certainly will be.

I think I understand what you are trying to convey Ben.
There is one for sale at a LGS.
Sort of a package deal ,comes w/five barrels.
Had one guy trying to shoot skeet with his 410 barrel.
IMO they have and still are really cool guns.
And now that we have better and more choices in scopes,as well as CB's they can really shine.
Only down side apparently is they don't compensate for human error.
As mentioned they multiply like rabbits.
The thoughts on needing to shoot pistol powders in pistol length barrels has been proven a myth. There is a happy medium in there with slower burning powders, thus the fireball. I myself burn a lot of H335 in an XP chambered in 6x45aka6-223. I have tried around a half dozen different powders. They all shot well for the most part. The H335 was excellent though, so I put up with the extra blast and fireball.
I have shot numerous calibers in bottle neck cartridges in handgun platforms. More times than not what works well in a rifle also works well in a shorter barrel. My 15" 308 encore shot the rifle load better than the rifle. The rifle is gone but the pistol will stay. It is a dandy CB shooter as well.
