AHH that's where I left that RL-19...

seriously if you got any caliber ending in X57 or 0-6..
i'll bet a buck you will find that weighing out that RL-19 one round at a time is well worth the effort.
I can only re-call one rifle that wouldn't shoot it better than anything else, and I only tried one bullet [the rifle didn't like anyway] with it.
it has shot sub inch groups in the 257,7x57,6mm rem, 6.5x257, 270, 25/30-06 with nominal bullet weights in several rifles.

fiver,

I have a .257 Roberts, a 7x57R and will inherit my dad's 03-A4 sporter. It sounds as though I may have a good use for this propellant.

I'm sure I had a good reason for purchasing this powder, I just don't remember my line of thought when I did so.

yep you got it for a good reason.
it's a bit primer sensitive so don't be afraid to get a pretty fair load worked up then try other primers, the rem 9-1/2 and the federal 210 have both been very good primers for me with that powder.
but it has given me low velocity variations and excellent accuracy when pushed to about 90% of the cartridges capability.

I really, really like the Reloder series of powders. They are easy to measure and I find they give excellent results in about any application. I gravitate towards them over IMR or Hodgdon in most cases.
Mght explain the five 5 pounders in the basement between 7,17,and 19.

I had less than 1/2 a pound of 2400 before I started pulling odds and ends of loaded ammo. You might say I am desperate! Kevin

I don't know what cartridge your loading but when I was looking for slower powders for the 45 Colt I found this interesting especially since I don't have any 2400.

From the Sierra Reloading Data, Edition 5, page 823 under 45 Colt FA/Ruger loads.
This data is for a 300 gr jacketed, I used this same data for my 280 gr MP 270 SAA in my 7 1/2 inch BH. Sadly my chrono wouldn't cooperate and I didn't get any data.

2400 Loads
14.7 gr @ 850 fps / 15.5 gr @ 900 fps / 16.4 gr @ 950 fps / 17.2 gr @ 1000 fps / 18.0 gr @ 1050 fps / 18.8 gr @ 1100 fps.
15.6 gr @ 850 fps / 16.1 gr @ 900 fps / 16.6 gr @ 950 fps / 17.2 gr @ 1000 fps / 17.7 gr @ 1050 fps / 18.2 gr @ 1100 fps.
Viht N-110 Loads

Notice at 850 fps it takes 0.9 gr more N-110 to equal 2400 but as both charges are increased that difference disappears. At 1000 fps 2400 and N-110 charge weights are both 17.2 gr and with further charge increases it takes more 2400 to equal N-110.

N-110 like most Viht powders can be tough to find but is currently available at Powder Valley, 2400 is not.

If you can't find 2400 there is an alternative for the 45 Colt. This will be my Bambi load this year and from limited testing the load is a match for the same bullet with 17.0 gr 2400. 2400 load compliments of Winelover.

Edit to add page number.

Greetings
A slight deviation on the course... Today was my first visit to Starline Brass in years and see ALL brass is in stock and ready to be shipped.

Two things I took from the Sierra manual. It took 0.8 gr increase of 2400 to match the velocity increase of 0.5 gr of N-110. After 17.2 gr 0.8 gr of 2400 didn't keep pace with 0.5 gr of N-110 for velocity increases. N-110 is a stick powder but it appears it does burn more consistently/efficiently at the higher end of the data. This is 300 gr bullet data and as is the case with slow pistol powders it no doubt is aided by the bullet weight.

I also have grown fond of the Reloading Series of powders for the same reasons mentioned by Brad.

accurate powders are also my favorite go to's.
between it and Alliant I'm pretty dang happy.
ohhh AA-4100 is a super close clone to 2400 also.
in the 17-18gr area I have directly swapped the 4100 In for the 2400 unfortunately I can't find either one right now.
I have both on hand but I shoot so much of it I duno how long they will last.

I have also read some insider info about ATK losing the alliant contract to make powder under that name in the next couple of years.
another company [BLK? airc] will be taking that equipment over.
that worries me more than anything the recent shortages have done.

Also like accurate powders, but cant get them here for some reason.

The internet is your friend.......been buying mine on-line since the late 70's, early 80's. Natchez use to sell Accurate powder for a fraction of what other canister powders were going for. That's when I was introduced to them. I always buy in 8 #ers and put in a larger powder/ primer order to spread the Haz-Mat costs.

Yup, you lead a charmed life! [I also have this visual of you zooming up to your house with the windows down, some bootleg Daft Punk cranked on the stereo, and drifting sideways into your parking spot with a hard e-brake pull :D]
