My friend Bryan has a Knight KP-1 ( blued ) in 45-70.
I encouraged Bryan to try my pet load of 10.5 grs. of Unique in his 45-70 with my NOE , plain base, 350 gr., sized .460". ( ....just how many cartridges shoot well with 10 grs. of Unique..... ? ? )

Here is the bullet :

Here it is , 3 shots at 75 yards :

Great shooting...makes me want one if the 30 or so trapdoors i got rid of...if I remember they sounded something like a spud gun going off...fun load to shoot..

Any pictures of the gun?

I'll have to dig it out. Just got some new "socks" or "sacks" from Amazon. Need to get the bare rifles out anyway and slip them on.

Here's my Trapdoor. Sorry for the delay in posting it. It was in the very back. Also sorry for the poorly staged and noisy pic.

Thank you Smoky..she's a beauty...sure brings back memories..
My favorite part of those is the rear sling swivel location ..really makes for a clean design and looks so cool..

I should do some serious cleaning of old congealed oil off this one and a few others.

Rear sling swivel is typical of most Springfields; forward surface of the trigger guard.

Yep Dan, I agree with the rear sling swivel location. My 58 Springfield
is a pleasure to carry with that configuration.

That load with the Lee hollow base saved my really worn Trapdoor. The other one is fine,
but the worn barrel one was throwing most things sideways. Hot smack of Unique and
the HB apparently bump up to grip the rifling. Great recoil, too.

I've been using a lighter than ruger load of imr 4198 in my 45-70 w 405 gr Lyman. Maybe I should see if my Lyman manual would recommend unique w that bullet and give it a try since unique is sitting on my shelf

Yep, like Bill says! Someplace between 10-15 gr.
you will most likely find the sweet spot.
