I can't seem to find the weight of these rifles. I'm mainly interested in the 45-70. Can anyone help with this? Thanks guys.

There was many variants if this gun. Round, octagon, 1/2 round 1/2 octagon, short barrels, long barrels & heavy barrels.
Id say they vary a good five pounds plus. So say 7-12#.
Beautiful guns. I have never owned a Winchester but I have had two Brownings. A 78 in 45/70 and later a target model also in 45/70.

The standard straight stock rifle used a # 3 30" barrel your looking at about a 9 to pound gun. My 1885 38-55 standard rifle weights 7 pounds 13 oz. so probably just under 9 pounds.

I had a 1885 in 45-70, it had been reblued before it came to me. Octagon #3 weight barrel and it was pleasant and a bunch of fun to shoot. Played with it a fair amount. Crescent butt plate, but the shotgun butt plate is certainly my preference now that I've aged a couple of weeks.

you can get one of those leather tie on 'pads', they ain't really a recoil pad they just kinda fill in the curved part, but you notice the difference in recoil for sure.

Lynn.
you know you ain't gotta shoot 500gr. bullets at 2-K fps.
a 400 at 1300 will go way out there no problem, and there ain't much walking around that's gonna stop that combo.
I shoot a 425 in my 86 with the steel plate, and even up near 1600 it isn't too bad, 1400 would be down right pleasant and I wouldn't hesitate to shoot an Elk with either speed out to my comfort level of open sights ranges.

I agree brother. The fake Sharps I just sold was pushing 10 pounds with a metal butt plate. I used a 420 grain bullet with 25 grains of AA5744 & could shoot it without pain till I was too tired to hold it up.

If any were to be had, a Low-wall in .45 Colt would be neat and with a 22" half-round barrel would probably come in at around six pounds.

I agree!! If it would fit... The little Lo Wal would make a delightful 45 Colt. I always wondered why I didnt see them.

They would work fine with 45 Colt, but not so much with "Ruger" 45 Colt loads. The head of the case would be above the rear support. C. Sharps Arms makes a low-wall in 45 Colt.

I shoot a 300 win in my 45 Colt Marlin with a load that goes around 1050-1100 fps. My last deer was with that load.
Very pleasant to shoot. Not bad in the Blackhawk either.

I have a low wall in 218 Bee. If I were to own a high wall although they never chambered them in this cartridge, I'd love to have one in 40-72.

I had a standard High Wall in 40-90 Sharps Straight, very clean gun about 93% if memory serves. Regrets. Had some very nice 1885's and Sporting Rifles. The 40-90 SS and a 22lr chambered in a High Wall with a #4 weight barrel, as well there was the 50 express. Fine rifles. Regrets in hindsight.

Son has a 22 Hornet Low Wall, one of the late manufactured Winchesters, not the Browning. Wish it had a bit faster twist to allow use of the 40 gr VMax and Btips. He also has on order the Shot Show Special 6.5x55 version. That one will be fun to play and hunt with. I've always had a hankering for one in 25-35, maybe one of these days.
