308 with Lee 312155

Went out this morning with the Mossberg MVP and some 308 loaded with the Lee 312155 pointed gas check, sized .311, Hornady gas checks and CR lube over 16.0 gr of WC820 in mixed cml/GI brass @ 2.663" OAL. Also took my new LabRadar chronograph to see how fast they were going. I learned one thing for sure, accuracy shooting and chronographing don't work well together for me; I need to develop a better process to do both. Anyway, the load averaged 1700 fps from the short barrel, a little more than expected. I should mention I was using a 12X scope, no open sights for these old eyes. 10 shot group was 2.35" @ 100 yd with 9 going into an oval group of 2", excluding the one high shot. I think the group would have been better if I had focused on accurate shooting, managing the sight wobble, and not been concerned with the chronograph. Anyway, this load will get some more development; any suggestions from the group ?

Might as well add that point of impact @ 100 yd was within 2" of my standard load which is the same as this load except 20.0 gr of IMR4198.

Chetokee...I just checked my records...
Here's the skinny;
1. Using the same loads as last time, try your. bullets sized .310 and .311...there was a. huge difference in my groups between the. two with that bullet...mine liked the .310.
2. Try seating them between 2.750 and 2.775. OAL
3. Try the equivalent of 17.5 grs of 2400.
With my alloy of 4-4-92 I got 3/4" to 7/8 "
groups out of my .308 using that bullet. sized to .310

Hope this helps. ..Dan
