311247 whisper in .308 win.?

I ran a search here and another site and didn't come up with much at all.
I was mildly interested in pb performance with this bullet in a .308 win. I did find mention of using it in a 06 from 950 to 1000 fps.(pb) and one mention of 1950 fps. in 06. Also 1 report in 30/30.

Anyone here tried it in .308 win in either pb or gc versions and if so at what speeds and what kind of accuracy? Just curious about it.

Btw my .308 has a 1/12 twist...too slow?

Ok, i just did another search on another site and worded it a bit different and did get some results on .308 and 06 rifles. These results were all with 1/10 twist though. Couldn't find any results for a 1/12 twist.

Buddy,

This one is from about 5-6 yrs. ago.
Notice that I was experiencing " bullet tipping " with
my 1-10 Twist barrel. My opinion for what ever it
is worth would be that the 1-12 Twist would be
marginal at best for a 240 gr.

Here is the Accurate 240 gr.30 cal. plain base test targets. I shot 20 rounds out of my TIKKA 30-06 , 1-10 twist, ( 4 groups with 5 rounds in each group ) Range was 50 yards. ( on the 8.0 gr. load , I had to expend 2 rounds to get the rifle hitting near the bull , therefore , the 8.0 grs. of Unique load only had 3 rounds in the target.)

The bullets were sized .3115 " lubed with Ben's Red and rolled in thinned 45-45-10 and allowed to dry for 2 days.

I did a " ladder test ", shooting 8.0 Alliant Unique with the 240 gr. bullet, 8.5 grs. of the same, 9.0 of the same, and finally 9.5 grs.

As far as I'm concerned it looks like 8.0 of Alliant Unique is the clear winner in the accuracy dept.

I can see some " tipping " on the 8.5 gr. test target, possible a bit of it on the others also. The 9.5 gr. target seems to show less / if any tipping.
I can only assume that the velocity increasing eventually began to stabilize the bullet ? ?

Seven grains of Unique in 1:12 30-30 break-action with 24" bbl. Minute of cow pie on 100-yard berm all day long standing offhand with brass bead/buckhorn sights. Didn't shoot paper.

Lee 309-230-5R still working on that in .308. Main issue is bullet is too small for throat even after powder coating.

Unless you are shooting suppressed, there's not much point.

Despite my affection for the little cartridge that bullet was designed for, I don't own that mould, and have no desire to. My inclination would be to purchase a mould known to work.

I'm not going to say it won't work.
However, I think it would be a CHALLENGE ! !

I see oval hoes in all of those targets, so yaw is definitely present. I had the Lee 8mm Maximum bullet, and saw the yaw increase as velocity did, so chose to go with lighter, shorter bullets.
