414 supermag ponderings

Well, cough, cough, that was a bit more painful than I was expecting. But... waiting for a 16" 414SM barrel to get here... This will probably make the old retrobate think about a really light walking rifle.

I can't say how that will be as close as I've come is a 445 in a 5 shooter . The 3rd shot was enough for me it nearly doubled in recoil reaction from the first shot .......
Seems there is a great deal of interest in pistol cartridges that should have been rifle cartridges but were pistol cartridges only available in pistols now being chambered in rifles .
I can't wait to shoot the 460 inspired 308 based baby howitzer I've hemha'd over for 5 yr .

I'll be looking forward to seeing yours .

I have been chasing a Dan Wesson 414 for a number of years now.
I have the 375 and the 445 the 375 is quite the experience in the 8" barrel [I wear both plugs and muffs]
the 445 with it's ported barrel is quite tame the harder you push it ,and the heavier the projectile weight you use the softer the recoil gets.
but if I screw the plain 10" barrel in it's place it becomes another thing entirely. [and holy cow with the 4" barrel]
I have shot some of the 375 super mags in my 375 win marlin and if the accuracy was better it'd be a habit because it turns into just another 44 mag lever gun at that point.
I have given some serious thought to figuring out how [Mike] Missionary 55 built his 414 lever gun and copying it, the extra barrel length changes things quite a bit.
getting a good 230gr rnfp with a gas check mold shouldn't be too much of a problem and the load details are easy enough to work out, anything within 150yds from Elk on down should be doable without any drama in your new toy.

More power to those who want the big ones in a handgun. For this old codger, I prefer
to stay with the mild, fun, and cheap shooting one handers. My days of appreciating heavy
recoil have passed me by. Really enjoy shooting 38Specials now, and get little joy from
things with the term mag following the cal.

A couple years ago, I had one of those 4" S&W X-frame revolvers in 500S&W Mag. It came with two different removable port inserts. OMG, the muzzle concussion you'd feel on your chest was kinda scarry.

I never suffered the need for a mag anything except 357 mostly because it is the minimum hunting cartridge for handguns here.
The 460/45 Raptor is just me with a pistol cartridge carbine to annoy everybody shooting handguns for whatever chambered in 30-30,35 Rem, 308 etc.

Happy to pass on the info. Have to head to the neighboring state of Moquegua soon so will be Wednesday or Thursday before I can get to it. Nothing complicated for anyone who understands the DW system and how easy it goes together.
