I don't know if I want to order the mould or not .....
I have an 1895 45-70 to work with a 459-535 for whatever I can get and stand to shoot . I also have a 45 Raptor to make try . The platforms are about even and with Unique and a 405 or 350 I have no difficulties getting what I need from either rifle . What I want is more ........ actually farther is more accurate .

The trouble with the Marlin is of course the length and getting the nearly 3" cartridge from the magazine to the chamber or being able to clear it unfired ......
The NOE has a nose length over .8 including the top band . No biggie deep seating is done all the time and it only has to go down like .43 to clear and run .
This brings me around to a wad card and a powder like 5010 , H1000 etc . , just like me fat and slow , to fill the case and stop set back . Of course that leads to compressed loads getting more compressed . I do have some Hornady LevEvolution brass and there's the Ohio straight wall 45-60 where the case length is cut to 1.8" . If I go to 1.7 I can ,I think , taper crimp on the band maybe just under it . There is also the wad cutter case groove .

The Raptor has no issues with length being a 308 family at 1.8" case and a 7x57 action .

The twist rate in both is sufficient for the 535 . 1100 fps is easy to reach and ballistics that make it a viable hunting solution within reason . 5ft of hold over at 250yd and 9ft at 300yd just 14" at 200 with a 100yd zero .

Let's have at it .

I don't follow. The Raptor is .451" and the Marlin should be approaching .460". The Raptor can't be loaded all that long, either, and has more internal restrictions for seating depth than the 45/70. The Raptor also dotes on spire points...

Sounds like a two-cavity Accurate mould with a proper bullet for each rifle cut into it.

the way I work things is to treat each gun for a particular use.
like they are all wildcat's.

for long distance your going to need [repeatable] sights to work at those distances.
basically set up one rifle for stuff and one for other stuff.

The Raptor is a test bed in my case the bore/groove is .452/.446 in a Mauser action if I have to shoot it single shot it's no big deal . Test bed for a future project .
I have 454 RB ,45-200, 452-200 RF , 454424 (NOE and Lyman) , 430421 (retooled to .448) for paper patch , 452-255 @ 265gr , Mountain Moulds 453-350 RF , 457-340 RF , 462-420 M-P @ 380 HB 414 PB , 458193 @ 417gr , and as an extreme case a 454613 that looks more like a true Minnie than a 45 Colts HB RNFP more so at 286 gr in pure . The nose as advertised will fit the Raptor as is .

So what about the 45-70 . I have a pretty good idea of what needs to happen to function . I was hoping someone had been here in the "new look at the old cartridge" , use it to it's greatest asset without abusing the rifle or shooter .

Fiver to that end I've 45 Colts to 264 WM .
Neither the the Raptor nor 45-70 are real hotrods . I'm making a shift in my hunting from 5 mile hikes above the tree line where any shot could be a pop-up 50 yd from what you thought you were stalking to beyond 300 with no way to make a stalk . To tree stands and blinds where 150 yd is a long shot across an open field . I'm sure the 30-30 with the XCB or the 165 gr RD will be plenty but I'll keep the 06' just in case .
