6X47 Remington and the NOE 245-74-C5 Brass mould

First attempt with this mould. Only shot 5 shot groups @ 50 yards as proof of concept. Bullets came in @ 70 Grains and were sized to .245. Reloader 7 was the powder choice along with Winchester SRP's. I increased the powder charge in .5 grain increments (which I know is a great increase fo such a small case) to try and get a feel for what it liked. Group 1 measeured . 425" (4 shots) with 17.5 grains, Group 2 .850" with 18 grains, Group3 1.391" wit 18.5 grains, Group 3 1.391 with 19.0 grains, Group 4 1.392 with 19.0 grains, Group 5 .979" with 19.5 grains, Group 6 .813" with 20 grains, and Group 7 2.897 with 20.5 grains. Going to test again in the 17-18 grain range @100 and also 10 the 19 to 20 grain range. '

Nice work.

I love to see it when someone runs a series of loads as you have done here. Far too many people just pull a load or loads out of their, oops, out the the air, and then try to make rhyme or reason out of the results or hope for the best. For lack of better words, there is just something about watching the group sizes grow and shrink, and how the group shape changes while working through a series of charge weights. Some folks think it is a waste of components, but this where we learn and what makes all of this interesting and enjoyable.

I am with you, forget about 3 and 4, might take 1, 2, along with 5, 6, and narrow down your charge increments to 0.2 or 0.3grs and see if they snuggle up. Any idea where the velocities are at?

Looking forward to seeing the results !

Update.......made it to the range today (8/21) remained @ 50 yards for some 10 shot groups. Group 1 was 1.155" with 9 in .799 (17.5 grains of RE7), Group 2 was 1.165" with 8 in .702" (17.7 grains of RE7), Group 3 was 3.010" with 9 in 1.080" (17.9 grains of RE7). I will revisit these loads using Small Pistol Primers next go round and use the same targets for ease of reference.

Herb what rifle are you using?
I have a 6x47 that I had built on the small Sako action with a light barrel about 40 years ago. After finally receiving the rifle it got placed in the back of the safe till last year. I’ve been shooting jacketed in it so far but just forming cases.
I have the Lyman molds, a 245496 2 cavity at 83 grains and the 245498 single cavity at 95 grains. Haven’t cast either yet so no idea on how they will work.
I’ve been looking at the NOE 245 70 mold your using which I feel is a good compromise, so I’m following your thread with interest here.
Have you tried other powders?

Its a Cooper Model 51 Sporter with fluted barrel. I haven't tried any other powders in cast, but it really likes the Hornady 58 grain Vmax with H322.

Small pistol primer test results. Used the same target and tested same powder charges below the initial targets shot. Group 4 was 1.097" with 9 in .606", Group 5 was 2.056" with 8 in .930", Group 6 was 1.359" with 9 in .783". Next will revisit powder charges in the 19 to 20 grain range with small pistol primers.

Moved to 100 yards after chronograph revealed bullet speed of approximately 2500 FPS. First group in upper left 17.9 Grains 1.744" (6 in .771"), Second group in upper right 18.1 Grains 1.619" (8 in 1.158") Third group in center 18.3 grains 2.742" without the extreme impact to the far right (7 in 1.006") It's a light rifle in a sporter configuration that kind of requires a death grip when shooting.
