a Dan Wesson find.

It was nice to meet you at the show Jon. To bad I was in the process of packing up or we could have visited more. Anyhow I looked at that DW seemed like a good solid revolver.
Yes, it was good meeting you there...always good to meet some of the online friends.

Nice find, Jon! I went about 0930 Saturday and it was really crowded, and difficult to get to all the tables without being a little too intimate with strangers.

One fellow on the back wall from the entrance had a nice Old Model Ruger Blackhawk .357 with a 9mm cylinder. I thought $845 was a little rich, but I also remembered I just don’t shoot the old XR3RED grip frames worth a hoot.

There were several round ball molds at a table towards the center, but nothing I was interested in.

Good to see another show in the area, though. Sorry I missed you!
I didn't notice the Ruger...yeah, 845 is plenty for a 600 dollar gun, LOL.

I would have went to this show on Saturday, but I was totally unaware of it.
I was playing cards with friends on that Saturday evening, when one said, "did you go to the gunshow today?"
I said I hadn't heard of it...then asked where it was...then I said, well I'm going on Sunday :)

SNIP...

as far as the hard hammer pull, check the sides of the frame and see if the trigger is rubbing,
they usually ain't but it does happen.
the other thing that happens is the rim of the case will rub on the shroud making it hard to turn the cylinder.
so will the ejection pin shroud being a little loose.
Before I took the DW out to the range a second time (on Wednesday morning after a Dr appt),
I looked over the gun and inspected the Hammer and trigger.
No rubbing/binding on frame ...neither the Hammer or Trigger or ejection pin.
Also, hammer pull is same with or without cases in cylinder.
Thanks for those hints/ideas. I am assuming it's just a heavy spring.

So I brought my 4" Ruger GP-100 to the range with the DW on
Wednesday ...which was just hours before the cold front was suppose to move in.
The Ruger feels so much better in my hand than the DW.
The action is also much nicer feeling than the DW.
But, shooting Hot loads, the heavier DW shines.

Now the weird thing. I brought 3 totally different loads (different bullet weights,
different powder, loaded to different pressures) and shot some of each in both guns.
I had some fliers in the Ruger, so I just put it back in the case. I didn't post that target, LOL.
It seems some days are better than others, when I'm shooting that Ruger.
It has a unmodified Trigger, so it's heavy like Ruger likes to make 'em.

Then the DW's turn, I shot 35 rds of mixed ammo (at one target) 50 feet, offhand, and only 2 flew out of the outer ring.
I was pretty happy with that...or maybe it was luck? I would have thought the different ammo
would have different point of aim?
It was sunny and breezy and 35º.

It would be interesting to know what tension your present barrel was installed at.
Every fire arm has to deal with barrel vibration . What barrel tension will do is alter those vibrations. It sees like some years ago someone on the DW site experimented with barrel tension.

A trick by the Master Class long range revolvers shooters using & winning with the DW was to forget the removable barrel. Once installed on the match revolver there it stayed, only an occasional snug twist of the barrel wrench to assure it was tight, never loosening it. A practice that assures the sight settings and groups never change, something that is not a guarantee when removing and replacing the barrel.

those grips take some getting used to.
once you get to using the gun more you'll start to appreciate them, then anything smaller will start to feel weird.

I have a 4" model 15, the "pork chop" style. It has treated me OK but I own and shoot too many Smiths. My trigger is good but not great. I think you got a good deal.

Nice work getting it out there a couple times already.

Tune that gp100, it'd probably quickly become a favorite.

i have a DW .357Mag. (stainless; Monson, MA) with 6" shrouded bbl. + bbl. wrench tool & feeler gauge. A couple of things to check: First, the clearance between the cylinder face and the rear of the bbl. Make sure the bbl. doesn't rub on the cylinder face (as mine is prone to do) and then tighten the bbl. nut (blue Loctite may be the answer here). Second, check the bolt on the bottom of the grips and make sure it is tight. Btw, the multitool that came with my DW has the proper sized Allen key. Third, I got a replacement black front sight for the red tipped original one as I could see it much better. Btw, those large grips fit my smallish hand perfectly and are quite comfortable, although I didn't think so at first: It is a pleasure to shoot and has a nicer trigger than the one on my Ruger BH.

Hope this helps!
