My dog would probably stand on her head and sing opera if she thought it would get her a cookie. Cookies rule.

I try to tell people our dogs are not pets but they never get it. Our dogs have 3 acres and everyone is an enemy to them. Stay in your vehicle and call us. People seem to think dogs don't work for a living and that is a bad way to think.

A working dog is the only kind to have IMO. I have no need for a dog, so I don't have one. Cats are a luxury ornament like house plants. What I never could understand is people getting a border collie, black lab, Australian shepherd, or golden retriever and keeping them in an 800 SF apartment with two kids.

Always had dogs, but now as the wife cant traved because
of medical problems, we got a cat. He is a big black and
white English shorthair, neutered, and about 4 years old.
We live in the city, and if I had a dog now, would have to
walk it a couple of times a day, or if I had a fenced yard
would have to clean up after it. Cat is no problem, just
a litter box, fast litter box clean up once a day, along with
a bowl of cat food filled same time as litter box cleaning.
Might take three minutes. Never had cats, but JW who
is a big cat lover, convinced me to get a cat when he said
a cat brings a lot of smiles into your house, and he was
so right. Albert is a big loveable tom, much more mine
than the wifes. He has brought a lot of smiles. Many
every day.

Working dog? Well if I'm asleep she is a great doorbell should someone come around. On the other hand if I'm not home for a pat on the head she would show them where everything is. For the promise of a cookie not only she would help them carry everything out but she would consider it a fair trade.

I'm like KHornet, have had dogs before but nothing but cats for last 30 yrs. Just wouldn't be fair to a dog given my physical condition and my wife's busy schedule. Right now we have two fur children, a mostly black 7 pound female and a 20 lb male that looks like a big badger. Both are rescues and are neutered but he is not declawed. Took a little training but now he can be a lap cat w/o shredding my thighs and pants.

When I was a shut in and recovering from some pretty serious physical problems my best friends were my cats. I could always count on a giving a little rubbing and getting a comforting purr in return. We get so much from our pets that ask for so little to be happy and make us happy in return. A good purr is all the "work" a cat really needs to do in our house!

I have her sister! lol! Wakes me up in the middle of the night about 2-3 times a week. But come in and offer her a biscuit, she would open the gun safe for you if she could!
