Thought I'd regale the crew with another of my adventures from 3 years ago. Walked into the LGS and there on the rack was a Cadet, Remmy front sight, PH7 rear, barrel bored and chambered for .357Mag, 16" twist. Scratched its ears and it followed me home. Started disassembly for a detailed check, oh no, powder burns inside the forend around the screw. Yep, the old boy had barely broken thru when he drilled for the forend screw. Turns out he had used a .210x27 thread, so I was able, barely, to clean out the hole and re-tap .250x28. Made a new attachment screw from .250 drill rod, coated the threads with Brownells Hi Temp Hi Force solder, screwed the rod in and sweated the solder for a good joint. Cut the long piece off, then made a saddle for re-enforcement from a 2" piece of 12ga barrel (ID matched OD of the barrel). There was an attachment point for the vent rib of the SG which I D&T for my new forend screw. The saddle was then soldered in place. I rechambered for .357Max. It shot inside 1" with the iron sights and my old eyes at 50. Figured I really need a scope, so made a mount from another piece of the SG barrel, attached blocks, and soldered it just in front of the action. Inside 1" at 100 now. This is the time when I really got back into casting, was using j-words up to now. That's a long story which I'll save for another time. GW
