K3's that was far funnier than it should have been !

If used for grinding/welding it would have been mostly to keep the trash out of last/next piece .

My grandfather had several similar pieces as an electrician .
Tool bags for a small number of line specific tools , his were heavy canvas .
The tools were laid from the handles down parallel to the seams then the bottom 3-4" we're folded up and the bag rolled and tied off like a sleeping bag , generally leaving the last panel empty to wrap around and shopping bag handles to carry it .........

That was a long way around to say tool bag .

Bill,
My good friend and shooting partner , Ed works for the Gas Company in the field for the past 40 years! Just sent him the photo I'm sure if it is gas related you will get a good ID!

???, sorry Al, no clue. OH, OK - see your explanation.

Thank you JW! THAT has a great chance of success.

He'll probably say something like 'Holy Cow, I haven't seen one of those in 25 years!" or something
like that. :)

OK I shot with Ed this morning and he looked over the photo closely. He said in the 42 years with the gas company ( & he was there before plastic!)
He has no Idea what it could be!
He at first thought it was to carry something but the hand holds are in the wrong place!
Sorry no answer here

RBH - only for 2" long tools.

And the corded seams will prevent rolling almost entirely.

I guess that would be a Western dachshund, Ian. Like a Levi jacket.

Presuming the loops are a top.
Vertical tools and a fold running 2-3" from the bottom horizontally and the loops rolled together with the line of the roll being vertical . Such a small piece would only accommodate maybe a half dozen specific wrench's , drivers or other particular specific tools .
Probably not what it is being so small .

I have tool rolls like you are describing but they have either a flap or pocket on the ends. This has neither. Might be but I don't think so.
