AR 15

I'm looking to acquire a AR15 458 Socom upper; or a AR9 upper; or a AR15 in 5.7mm. Anybody reload for the 5.7?

If you want a SOCOM, buy the one from TROMIX, it's the only one made to the correct specs because they are the OEM. I bought a barrel and bolt and did the ejection port enlargement myself with files and a Dremel sanding drum and assembled the upper the way I wanted it myself. Also buy a cartridge gauge from Tromix. Trust me.

You can buy a cheaper upper but you will get what you pay for. The chamber and reloading dies won't match and brass life will be short. At a buck a piece for brass you'll want to minimize damage to it.

AR9's are fun but are finicky. You will end up reloading all the time to keep them fed. It is nothing to go through a thousand rounds at a day at the range. Now I bring 300 and that is it.

Well, I've got everything 9mm and 458 Socom; Dies, Brass, case gauges, ect. I even have a mold for the 458. Grandson got into the Socom stuff just before he got married and now has 2 kids with a third on the way so the shooting for him is almost non existent at this point. Leaning hard to the 458 side of things at this time, IF my shoulder can hold out.

The SOCOM is nice because it uses standard AR magazines and doesn't ever seem to jam (IF you use that case gauge!) Last round hold open is flawless. You can also download it considerably to make it more like a .45 Colt.

Found a bunch of Legend brass at the range today, really, in TX? I could see a 10mm (or 40sw) AR but no way 9mm.

I like my 40 (pcc) AR. I thought I wanted a 458.... That was until I discovered the 450 was more my style! ;)

I have allot more 452 ish bullets then 458.

Also 458 seems to be better suited to heavies and the 450 better for lighter.

No experience with the lil 5.7 sorry. Looks intresting until I remember I have hornets and bees and a 17WSM. ;)
