Bore Sighting a rifle.

My friend Emil in Jax , FL is a very good wood worker.
I told him ( many yrs. ago ) that I needed a " cradle " that would hold a bolt action rifle securely that would allow me the ability to bore sight the rifle / scope.

He sent me this. I have used it for about 10 years.
It has been invaluable. I use it quite often.
When you get to the range, that first shot is always "close."
The " cradle " has saved me time and money.
I believe he made the cradle out of Amer. Walnut.

If you'd like to copy the design, .......get started ! !:):):)

Looks well done signed and executed.

Sometimes the proper tool just makes life easier.

When you put a rifle in this cradle, a 3rd grader could bore sight the rifle.

that's similar to the store-bought thingy I use.
I'm pretty sure it was intended as a rifle rest for shooting but I use it to put scopes on and bore sight them on the neighbors porch light from my kitchen island through the kitchen window.
it's 100 yds. from my island to their porch light, making things rather simple.

So are you implying that this is more convenient than an old cardboard box with a couple
of Vs cut in the sides with my pocket knife and propping up with books and scrap lumber?

:headscratch:

Maybe I need to rethink my methods.......:embarrassed:

I may have to make something like that, that looks awfully nicely made and easy to use.

Saves a lot of time and ammo.

Ben,

I'm glad you enjoy your rest/cradle.

You have SN #00002. Proto type SN #00001 gets a regular workout on my workbench.

I use mine on every rifle I bring out to my shop. In the last week, I've used it to disassemble the Swede sporter, mount a scope on the custom 10/22, and glasbed my CZ 455. As you can see, mine is a shop tool; I've never had it to the range. I'll have to take it along next trip!

Let me know if you wear it out or need a modified version and I'll start on SN #00003 !

All the best,

/Emil
