Buehler Split Ring Removal Question

Won't get into the long story, but how do you remove the Buehler split rings, from a scope, without damaging them?

I did a google search "buehler split ring removal" and several .pdf's showed up, including the factory one. HTH

I saw that, too, but nothing mentioned how to remove the rings. Both the front and rear rings are split longitudinally with about a 1/8" gap. Unless there is a special tool, I don't see how they can be spread/opened enough to be removed from a 1" scope tube without damaging them. The rings are steel and harder than thumb nails.

I'll do another search, again.

Edit to add: Pictures tomorrow.

I had a set in my stuff and they are solid rings in the context but they have an over complicated , simple , high precision interlock that I saw slipped open and had a wow moment put back together and placed in a box of rings and mounts ........ I wish I could remember . It seems like it's just like a beveled double dolls head/dog bone joint that's finished and polished as a unit .......
It's simple and nearly invisible .

Could be, because they certainly can't be spread enough to be removed without destroying them.
I emailed the company and am waiting on a response.

You have the one piece Buehler rings. You unscrew the eyepiece and slip the rear ring off. The front ring is removed by unscrewing the front lens bell and then slipping the ring off. Yes, it requires disassembling the scope!

Barn,
Thank you.

By not going into the long story, it wasn't mentioned that the rifle and scope are not mine, however the owner gave me the scope.

Prior to posting my original post, I knew the rear ring could be removed as you mentioned. The problem is the front ring, because the bell refuses to budge. Perhaps Kroil would help, but it's of no matter and importance as I don't have any use for the scope and will set it aside.

Though of excellent quality, the entire setup is unnecessarily complicated.

I'll find a set of Weaver bases and rings, and proceed from there.

My experience is with a Lyman 6x All-American. I am looking at an older Lyman All-American 4x and it has the same detail. I just unscrewed the front bell on the 4x, so it can be done.
If you are not interested in the rings you could put a cut-off disc in a Dremal and cut the ring as deep as you dared. Then pry open and close the factory slot until it pops.

Ordered a set of Weaver bases -- front 35, rear 36 -- they arrived (with screws!), are a perfect mate, and are installed, thread locked and torqued.

Onward.
