Care and feeding of Lyman 321427

Well, snagged a Lyman 321427. It was listed for the 32 Special and 32-40.

"321427 Designed to fill the demand for a light gas check bullet for the .32-40 and .32 Spec. Cartridges. (GC, RN, 134 - TP is 427) "

Has anyone tried the 32-40 / 321427 combination?

Since there is a barrel liner for the .321 size [unlike the .258 :headbang:] re-lining a low wall barrel makes sense [I hope].

What twist would make this bullet happy in the 1,000-1,200 fps range?

Barrel liner for .32-40 cartridge, .315" bore, .323" groove, 1-16" twist, 6 grooves, 9/16" OD
Barrel liner for .32-40 cartridge, .316" bore, .323" groove, 1-14" twist, 6 grooves, 9/16" OD

The last part of this fantasy is a .321 sized straight case SMALLER than the 32-40!

Looked it up, can be reformed from .357 Max brass. Not bad. But there is a "32-20 CPA" [I think] with a .321 bullet. The Miller is slightly tapered. Might be a bit fiddly to open a .312 or so 32-20, but having a straight case seems worth it.

Looks to have been at least five .321 sized cartridges.

easy to blow the 32-20 cases out it straight you have a 30 carbine revolver.
you'd have to re-fire form them to the new chamber afterwards but it'd be a decent first step to get the shoulder straightened out.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
If you can find a copy of "The Modern Schuetzen Rifle" there's a lot on the 32 Miller in it IIRC.
