Casting day...

Spent a considerable part of today, casting...I had been having problems with temp...just couldn't get it high enough. But, today, everything came together...temp was running right and after several hours of casting, I was rewarded with a nice pile...I had cast a nice pile of small limbs and pine cones into the trailer and delivered them to the fire pit.

I have these pines surrounding my house...you cannot BELIEVE the amount of limbs and cones created by these trees...it is NEVER ENDING. I had just done this 2 days before Christmas...then we had this cold front come through over the weekend, with it's accompanying winds....it was time to do it again. Like I said...never ending. But, it weren't for having this to do...I might get wayward and cast and reload too many boolits.

These pics show just what is in front of the house...there are 3 sides, not shown.

What was I thinking...when this mess was created...it certainly wasn't about making old age easier.

What Rick said!

Shootnlead, that looks like east Texas, particularly this time of year when it's mid-70s during the day. I don't much care for pine trees (mainly the smell of them and the needle mat on dewey mornings), but they're self-mulching and sure don't need much care. Pine rosin also makes one of the best sacrificial reducants in existence.

Other than the house (yours is much fancier than ours) your place looks a lot like ours (in summer) was when we bought it in 2004. Then the pine beetle came! 34 beautiful yellow pine and the damn bugs got them all! Now we have a house, shop, sheds and a big bare lot (1.8 acres) So sad. Fortunately, we back on crown land and there is a good section of Fir trees right behind our place, so there is still some nice trees we can at least look at.

Guys, thank for the nice words about my home.

I do have a LOT of grass to cut, the pics don really show the grass, at all...but a zero turn mower a few years ago, made that a non-issue...perhaps the best money that I have ever spent...even though my wife about put me in the doghouse when I brought it home and she realized what it cost. But, I told her that I would take it back and I would do the house work and she could cut all of that damned grass with that old mower...and we would call it even. Well...the new mower was never mentioned again.

The thinking was, that the trees would limit the grass cutting...which they have, but it has certainly been at the price of a PITA or back...or both. We have lost some of the trees to beetles and lighting...but there are still PLENTY of trees. I fuss about them...but I don't want anything to happen to them...I would rather have to do the necessary maintenance than not have them...I am used to looking at the place with them and it would be strange for them not to be there.

I retired about 8 months ago...so, I really have the time to do it...just not always in the mood and I no longer have the excuse of NOT having the time...so, I kind of chide myself when it gets to looking a little raggedy.

What prompted the thread is that I was thinking as I was doing the cleanup, this is a beautiful day to be making some bullets. But, by the same token, it was a beautiful day to be doing the more mundane things, also.

Ian, I don't really care for pines, either. But, Georgia is filled with pines trees...and we are limited to what is available, naturally. Our last place had oak trees...NEVER will I do that again. Those mosquito's made life miserable every summer...and our summer is 8 months long. So, the pines were the lesser of 2 evils.

That is indeed a nice home & lot there. I will pass or blow off yard work whenever possible. Heck my yard isn't huge & I use a rider anyway, just to be done quick. It's a real treat to see the weedeater been run here. Doesn't get raked unless I pay a kid to do it. I do have 2 of that same lil' red trailer.

If I had bigger lot or acreage I'd fill it with wood, trucks, boats, & other "junk" anyway.

I used to always use one of the pickups...but the cart and trailer are easier. I can just step on the cart and pull right to where I am and don't have to tote the stuff back to the truck. And, besides...by the time I get that cart filled with 6" limbs and cones...I am ready to ride to dump it.

That is a nice home and congratulations on the retirement!

Thanks, gman...I have enjoyed the retirement. I was at home with my kids during the summer while they were home from college and I got to hunt as much as I wanted during deer season.

I am probably going back to school summer semester of this year. I have somewhat of a plan for a business that I can work around my schedule...not that I have one...but, I can do it kind of like I want to...I have to get the appropriate license to do it...that will take about 3 semesters. I want to work...worked all of my life and have no intention of stopping now. I retired because I wasn't doing myself any favors by continuing to do what I had done for 30+ years...and I was past my eligibility to retire. So, went in one day, told them that I was gone and have not missed it a single second
