Christmas Eve in a time of Covid

I come from a deep traditional Polish family .... Christmas Eve Supper has always been the special meal in my family.

The missing person at the table was provided a plate on a bed of hay with all parts of the meal! This year with Covid we would need a bale of hay!
OK that is problem one!
Problem 2 is Tonights supper is just my loving wife and I. No son or other relatives around the table ( at this time it could be dangerous)
Problem 3 How much food can two people eat? The normal Christmas Eve Supper for Polish families consist of White fish of some type ( usually cod or Haddock} baked Pierogies ( Potato & cheese & Farmer cheese) Polish mushrooms and Polish mushroom soup. and a few sides of veggies....

However since it is just the wife and I will have the prime pick of just the Polish Pierogies tonight ( the most calories of course)
She is calling me to the table as I type!
Christmas Eve in a time of Covid!

Well it is strange times. We are going to the in-laws for pizza and gift exchange. Just old crotchety family, all kids are elsewhere. Tomorrow just Karyn and I. Honestly, that's the way I like it, just don't tell Karyn. She goes a little buggy without the grands at Christmas.
Jim just Make the best of it and Enjoy.

Tonight's local-family Christmas Eve dinner came apart, Tuesday evening, when we were informed that two of our son-in-law's co-workers have the Chinese flu. He can't get tested till Monday but is symptom-free, so far. He texted my wife (I don't do cell-phone stuff), apologizing, etc. I phoned him and said he has nothing to apologize for, or feel bad about. We all understand.

I delivered their presents and dinner fixings, so we'll each have our own dinners and open presents.

Could be much worse.

Same here. My shooting buddy, Joe (1891argie) tested positive a week ago last Sunday. Wife and I on 14 day quarantine by choice, no sense spreading it around. If everyone is well, we will celebrate on the 30th.

I normally feed 5 or 6 people prime rib. Only gonna feed the three of us tomorrow night. There will be lots of leftovers! Merry Christmas!

Usually have dinner in the fellowship hall at the little church I grew up with......to be followed by a candlelight service up in the Sanctuary. Both are called off this year. Tomorrow morning I will drive to my daughter's for Christmas Day brunch and if all goes well my son's family will join us. This will be a hard holiday.

May all of you have the best Christmas possible, and think of those serving in far away places......wishing they could be home here with us, Chinese flu or not.

Merry Christmas and bless you each and every one.

Mom may have been exposed (very remote) but we're not taking any chances, will see her in a couple of weeks. Wife and I have always done the eve by ourselves just like our family and hers always did. Just us and now our kids. Tomorrow is same but add her mother, we're all pretty sure we're not sick. A long line of only children makes a small family for both of us anyway, so not a whole lot is different from the usual.

We have the daughter and her BF here for a few days. Tonight Paul was over for dinner and to open gifts. Tomorrow we will stop into see my parents for a bit. We will wear a mask while there to make sure.

Next week I get to begin administering the vaccine to long term care facilities. My hope is that we will be giving them the best gift of all, the ability to see and hug family.

Cindy is half Polish. Mother's maiden name was Duglapolski. We both grew up in a small, predominantly Polish community. Very familiar with their Christmas Eve traditions. Yesterday, Cindy made Pistachio Encrusted Lamb Chops. Her invention, and one of her favorites. Traditionally, we have venison tender loins and grilled shrimp............but she made venison loins recently.

We use to do Christmas Eve with her family. Christmas Day with my side. Parents are long gone and we moved away from what little family, is left. Now, it's just the two of us and Rick. Smoking, a 6# boneless Prime Rib, today.

Baby it's cold out side.

As noted elswhere ours is a mess . We had mini pizzas . The girls are at my mom's (still sounds weird to say for a guy 54 raising grands) , were supposed to be home last night but travel timing etc ......I can't even touch on the interpersonal details ......

Most nontraditional Christmas in our history , pot luck at mom's today , split unboxing times 3 I guess .
At some point I will desire to be pickled ..... Have some spiked nog . Although by the time I get home tonight I'll probably just skip direct to the spike .

Scotch and bourbon for the grandfather's birthdays , a gulp of Blackberry brandy for Dad . I already don't feel well .

A repeat of sorts next week with my Daughter for my granddaughters birthday . She was born 12/26 , Grandfathers 12/22/1901 , 12/25/1901&17' . Father and Dad's .......my family is so screwed up .....but we're happy and festive .

The season of selfless giving . Amen .

4PM live candle-light church service, over to son's for his TV church candle-light service, then his smoked ham & rib dinner. She does anything to visit with the GKs plus her nephew and kids were there. It's Christmas and covid or not we visit. Did get a hogue grip for the Sig and a Leatherman MUT tool I haven't figured out yet. GKs got soccer balls and lots of clothes. Biggest present - GKs were NOT on the phones all night.

Just Mrs. smokeywolf, Future Veterinarian and me here for Christmas observances. Can't risk exposing Mrs. smokeywolf to anything due to her unstable health issues. As her foods are severely restricted, the typical Christmas foods are off the menu. The 3 of us (plus Tasha the puppy) are very happy to be home and together.
Sadly, due to circumstances, College Boy is stuck in SoCal. We FaceTimed with him last night so he could watch Mom open the gift he bought for her; a $500+/- Apple Watch that along with a host of other things, tracks her heart rate and detects A-Fib.

We have a very nice quiet Christmas. For Breakfast we had one of our traditional meals. Scrapple and Eggs!
We used to have Polish Red Kieska ( Polish Blood Sausage) and eggs but the last Polish butcher in our area closed his doors last year! So there are very few folks still making traditional Polish Sausage except Kielbasa...and even that is becoming rare

We both helped to cook up a traditional Christmas Turkey Dinner
So that kept us busy for the better part of the day! Then at 4:30 pm we had a quiet dinner just the 2 of us.
After dinner we split up everything and Boxed it up and My son picked it up on Our patio and carried next door where he lives with a friend who is an old band member of his and our tenant ....so they were able to have the same Christmas Dinner as us.....just socially distant. we are not ready for any company as of yet . Our numbers here are just far too high!

J W, What a wonderful meal! Sounds like you two are managing. Herself and I love the traditional meals. Brisket, latke, keishka, kraut, cugul, charnina, bubble and squeak, scrapple, goetta, and a host of others. Fortunately, we still have a couple of butchers who cater to the old folks but they are thinning out.
