Do you like red dot sites?

My problem is severe astigmatism that turns standard dots into smears. I use an EOTECH true holographic on my 9mm PCC game gun. That reticle is clear for me. I have a CMORE Railway on a 15-22. For pouring magazines onto steel, the smear doesn’t matter all that much.

I got my first red dot in 1985, I think. Perhaps earlier. I put an Aimpoint MkIII on the carry handle of an AR-15 now known as the SP1 version.

I've since had several. A couple of USPSA pistols with Tasco and C-Mores, ARs with Aimpoint Comps, a Vortex Sparc that has been on several rifles and is now on a Ruger MK III pistol.

My carry pistol is a Sig P320 with a Sig red dot (that I'm not entirely happy with). That gun will probably get a Trijicon RMR soon, and the Sig dot will go to a Sig P322...which I don't have yet.

Almost forgot:
My Ruger PC9 carbine has a Holosun green dot.

I prefer green and will get that whenever available. I first tried green in a Trijicon scope, loved it, and got another.

I have astigmatisms and some dots don't work well for me anymore. Some look like a comma, which is workable, but some are like looking at a stoplight through a rain-splattered windshield. I have heard EoTechs are best with astigmatism, but they are the worse for me. The green Holosun works the best for me.

My Favorite "Deer Rifle" is a BFR in 475 Linebaugh. It wears a big Ugly MatchDot.

At 40 years old I was told that I needed bifocals, but I resisted. Agreed 5 years later. Now at 50, there is no way in hell, I could make 100 yards shots with a revolver with Irons. No way to focus on the rear sight, front sight and the target.

The Ultra Dot brand is cheap and snubbed by many. I destroyed a couple of Dots tgat were way more expensiveon that Linebaugh. Max Prasac turned me on to those Ultradots. They will stand up to any recoil.

similar to imashooter2 - I like red dots, but most don't like me. I get a sort of v-shaped hologram around part of the dot. I attribute it to the laser eye surgery I had 20+ yrs ago. I do have one on my Ruger MKII that I really like (for precision shooting). I think I finally bit ther bullet and it is a good Holosun.

ps: I would like to find a couple lower end ones that are durable that I could put on a couple AR pistols!

I find "cheaper" dots more susceptible to this. Better dot are not as suceptable. For instance my Aimpoints and Ultra dots and Leupold RDS are all red and all give me a perfect round dot. Maybe glass grind? Maybe glass quality? Combination? Emitter quality. Who knows.
I do know green seems to clean up the quality of the dot too.
Also, outside in brite light the dots always appear cleaner. In low light or indoors they flair.

I'm going to swap the Leupold on the .429 Deer rifle to a dot Next year. That Matchdot ( ultradot brand) on the BFR has a few different reticles. It eats Leupold Scopes for lunch.

Purchased a Bushnell dot sight, years ago, with red dot/green dot interchangeability feature. Never did warm up to the green dot.

RED DOT!!

Be they standard tube style in either 1" or 30mm or even BIGGER! (Remember those beer cans!!)

Reflex

Prism

Be this for a Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun or even a Different choice for each.

I have been using them since the 1980's. About since they came to be. It started and my first one was for my NRA Bullseye shooting right after they where authorized. Scopes had paralax and the magnification magnified movement. So a zero magnification or 1x (Same as eye site) was perfect.
Back then it was Aimpoint 2000. They had no ir very slight parallax! Then as they improved we had 3000 then 5000. Then guys started with ULTRA DOT...

Today we have THOUSANDS of manufacturers!!!

I still prefer a Aimpoint BUT they have grown to be too costly for most folks. (Self included.) I have found deals on used units for the last few I own.
I bought a used Trijicon and it broke allowing me a Warrenty replacement. I got a bonus check one time and decided to treat myself to a SRO and MRO! I HATED the SRO!!! Traded that off in a week!! 500$ and it was aweful!!! Surprised myself, as I liked my RMR reflex. I liked the MRO but ended up trading a buddy for the Leupold RDS, Because the dot was much smaller. (My preference since Bullseye.) He wanted bigger dot. I have two from Sig and like them. Who doesn have the excellent Bushnell trs-25!?!? I think I have three!! (Beware of knock offs!!)
Now I find myself needing new dot and I looking at a Riton and a Primary Arms.

So whats YOUR favorite and for/on what. Do you have a Riton or Primary Arms?

Sited my Green Dot on my target pistol this Monday and wow what a difference. I have great hopes for improved scores now that I wont be guessing about POW/POI.
