dream wildcat rifle

i was sitting here thinkin (Master of Dumb-butt) of a wildcat cartridge in a rifle that is good for deer out to 100 or 150yards. 50 yards is more like it (the area i hunt), but occasionally i see deer 100 - 150 yards away. since i am cheap basturd, i want a cast boolit. i know brass can be an issue, so i'll use something cheap and easy to get. what rifle will i use? mmmm.....could it be 93, 95 or 98 Mauser? or 1898 Springfield Armory? Arisaka Type 99? Carcano model 91/38? TC Encore or Contender? what to do? what to do? mmmmm.......TC Contender should do it. yes, i already have a wood stock rifle set. what i don't have is a scope. i guess i'll buy  a 2-7x Vortex. i have a Weaver scope mounts and rings, somewhere?

now the choice of the cartridge........i really want a 35 Krag, but 30-40 brass can be an issue. 358x57 Mauser (i know they have a 9mm Mauser (.355") and 9.3 Mauser (.366")? possibly, but that requires a new reamer, so no. 35/30-30? i already have that in a model 94. a 357 Herrett? i already have that, but it is a 10" barrel. 30-30 brass shouldn't be an issue. i know all about setting the shoulder instead of the rim!!! the cast boolit, i know i already have a 200gr RCBS FN GC mold, so i might as well do it or i'll buy mold that goes 180ish gr LFN, WFN or maybe an FNHP.

i'll use either a MGM or Bullberry heavy factory barrel at 18, 21 or 23" length. i'll probably go with the 23" barrel because of noise of the shot is further away from my head and ears. i have shot a TC Encore rifle with a 16 1/4" barrel (6.5 CM) and my ears weren't too kind of me.

so the you have it, i dreamed up my rifle, a TC Contender with a 23" heavy factory barrel in 357 Herrett with a 2-7x Vortex. what's your dream wildcat rifle?

7-30 waters rimless in a Carcano........ actually it's a 7×6.8 SPC , 22" 1-8.5 Montana Rifleman , Boyds grey lam stock .

I have in the works a .451 dia 45 comparable to 45-70 that will live on a walnut stocked Axis action. 24" Green mountain.750 at the muzzle target crowned 1-16" twist . 11×57 ?

For years I wanted a .40 caliber rifle built on a trapdoor, probably a .40/65 or a wildcat .40/85 (run a .45/90 case into a .40/65 die). I've come to my senses about that (still trying to figure what to do with the Shilen barrel I tucked away for "someday").

Lately I've been contemplating a 21st century variant of the .22 Hi-power: a 28" barrel on a Ruger #3, with a .223 bore and a 1:10 twist. Maybe even an Ackley-improved variant. I don't do enough varminting to make it worthwhile, but it might be a fun rifle!

Well I have a 458x2 American and a 6x47, the the 35 Whelen before it was legitimatize so that one I guess it doesn’t count anymore.
But, I think the only wildcat that I’d be interested in would be a wheel gun in 50 Special. But that’s a pricey proposition. And I can down load my 480 and I have a 45AR. So I’m good.
Wildcats are an expensive proposition and can be a headache.
I find that most of the wheels have already been invented, you just need to do some research with the way back machine.
But then there’s the challenge of it for sure. Anything can be justified. I just find that there’s a world of options already out there that I won’t be able to take advantage of with what’s left for me on this side of the grass.
Just my $0.02, YMMV and probably will.

Well if I had to pick just one…. It would probably be Todd’s 35/30.
Or maybe a obsolete cartridge in a lever, probably a Winchester, but that’s just me.
