Dumb question time

Here are some pictures, (I am a terrible picture taker).
Like I said it is a cheap rifle. I appreciate all the offers but I am going to try this first.
I am going to heat the steel using a torch until the steel glows red-hot.
I an going drop into some motor oil. Leave in the oil for approximately 60 seconds
Remove from the oil and wash it using dish soap and water.
Reheat it until it is blue-hot. And if I understand it, blue is the color steel turns just before it becomes red-hot.
Drop it in a vat of room-temperature water. Allow to cool in the water. Hopefully this will giver me what I want.
