Full Wadcutters in the .32 H&R

waco, my buddy Ed has a Ruger single six in 32 H&R Mag & man he can make that gun shoot! One of the most accurate guns he shoot and he has an amazing inventory. He is an exceptional pistol shooter! He uses Commercial Wad cutters ( I think Hornady) they are hollow base and are soft lead but shoots them with really light loads. We both don't have a mould for any .32 cal except mine for .32 acp at 80 gr.
I have to say it is the most accurate caliber I have seen. My opinion is .32 caliber is one of the most accurate and that includes .32 acp !

Hope he has a lot of the 32 HB WC's as they haven't made them for 10 years and say they aren't going to make any more.

Such a shame so many things have fallen by the wayside, because marketing hype buries it under the glitz and glam of "new and improved."

I actually feel bad for those who will miss out on such cool and useful things.

But then, WE can cast whatever the hell we want, so I don't feel bad for me/us.

Ed has such a stock pile of old stuff bought when he was working I can't begin to tell you!
He shoots stuff that I never seen or heard of before and has got in in the 1980 & 90's
He has ammo from the 1970's including cast that he made ....That is when he started casting bullets! & yes he has a lot of old moulds too!

Ric,

Speer did a run of them last year. I clicked the remind me when they are back in stock on the Midway website and magically after waiting years they popped up one day.

Speer is listing them as unavailable again on their website so the production run must be over and out. But Midway still has stock. I bought 3,000 last year but I should consider putting another 1,000 on my x-mas list rather than new socks....

I have had good luck shooting the Lee TLWC with 700X and the Hornady HBWC with WST in my Smith 16 out to 25 yards. Target velocity (powder puff) and accurate. Beyond 25 yards, I have been playing with the 32/20 SWC bullets using Unique and getting fair results.
As my friend tells me, your mileage may vary.

One of the biggest reasons we're all here. We want what we want when we want it. Heck, we can get many designs from halfway around the world within a week or so.

I found one of the 6 cavity Lee moulds for the tumble lubed double end wadcutter for my friend Dale53, who some of you probably know. When he retired from casting and shooting, I “inherited“ these moulds and a small box of the bullets he had cast with it. I’m saving them for use in my reconstructed K32 with its original 32 S&W Long chambering. I don’t have any desire to drive wadcutters faster than the target velocities for which they were designed. I also have one of the last boxes (500 rds?) of Hornady HBWCs to be sold at clearance and will use them the same way. I find I prefer semi-wadcutters for plinking, utility, and more serious loadings, so my 32 H&R and 327 FM cartridges generally have a truncated cone or a flattened round nose sticking out of the front of their cases. That’s just the way I roll, and of course YMMV.

No, but he’s in assisted living and for some strange reason they wouldn’t let him keep his guns! That was why I put inherited in quotation marks.

A cautionary tale.
Picked up a 632 UC last Tuesday. What a disappointment from an iconic American company like Smith and Wesson and a highly regarded distributor like Linsey's. The trigger makes the trigger on my Taurus 327 seem really good. Put some snap caps in it and was dry firing it and the rear site dang near fell off. Took down to my gun room where my tools are and loosened the Allen enough that I could push it back to center. On the plus side it's a good looking revolver and the grips really work well with my XL hands.
I'm old, I like revolvers I own a dozen Smith and Wesson handguns but this is a real disappointment.
Currently awaiting my RMA.

We have one and it gas done pretty well. Maybe you got a lemon.

I haven’t bought a newly made S&W since sometime back in the ‘80s. I’ve had the opportunity to play with both a 60-10 and a 631 in stainless J frames, but they came to me used. I was even disappointed with the action of a 14-3 I used for a project about 6-7 years ago, but from what I’ve seen this one was an anomaly. When the dreaded, much maligned IL came along, that was the end of my interest in new S&Ws, and I’m waiting to see what will happen now that Lipsey has shown the brass at S&W the path back to righteousness.

Hey Charlie, good to see you over here.
You’ll feel right at home with us old pharts to lament the passing of S&W.
You know I love those old N frames. The “Classic” series makes me gag.
Start posting, you got a lot to offer./beagle

Hello Mr Beagle! It’s been a while, my friend. I’ve been a very infrequent visitor here for about a year now. Still dropping by the forum that can’t spell and the S&W “Blue Forum” run by the big gorilla. I just joined S&WCA and will probably stop by their forum occasionally too. Are you still shooting that Ruger Single Six in 32 H&R? That always struck me as one of the two most appropriate guns for the caliber… the S&W Mod 631 Target being the other. Now I’m more excited about the 327 FM, so my custom S&W K frame and Ruger Blackhawk get the nod.
Regards,
Froggie

The 32 is a fussy cartridge to load and commercial ammo is rarely sized for the bore they go into…ie 0.314 groove and 0.312 bullets. If the bullet really is 314, it can be inadvertently swaged during seating leading to more disappointment. Sizing dies are frequently too small as well. I use unsized brass and a good crimp. Go to the Bullseye forum.net and see their treasure trove on the 32 swl. I haven’t played too much with the H&R but 1000 fps os nice at 50 yards
