I took Dawn up north to another club today and they had one trap field open cause everybody else was shooting 5 stand off in the distance.
they set up the machine so we could either pull or we could use the voice activated throwers.
at first we just shot 2 rounds of 16yd practice to check out the lay out of the place and I wanted to compare the 2 barrels poi on the Win 101.
the top barrel shoots about 10% higher, I chipped the first bird with that barrel and done it again on the second bird but figured it out and finished off the round missing only one bird, we shot the second and I used the bottom barrel and didn't miss any.
after that I was going to show Dawn some tricks from the 27 yard line but we grabbed the wrong box of chokes for her gun so I left the modified choke in there and explained the time distance and velocity to her then showed her how the lay-out of the range influenced her lead angles by widening out as they went back.
she tried to get away with the same little things she gets away with up on the 16 yd line and I had to show her why she couldn't shoot like that from back there.
I think it surprised her a bit that there was actually a seconds delay between pulling the trigger and when the target broke.
she at one point called me MR smarty pants and said to show her how it's done.
so I grabbed my gun off the rack and broke 10 straight targets then put it back and asked if she was ready to listen to me.
we had a nice little talk on the porch and went back out to the range to try again.
this time she broke 10 targets then struggled a bit before moving on to the last station with 5 straight right hand targets.
after the second one I stopped her and walked her up to the house and showed her the physical angle of the target then we walked back to the station and then we walked out to where she should be breaking the bird.
this gave her a good look at distance and triangulated what angle she was actually shooting them at.
she finally believed me about the lead distance needed and broke the next 2 targets before missing the last one.
she looked right at me and said 'I know what I done' I said 'I do too'.
we had a good laugh about it, but she got my point.
next time i'll work on speed of the shell versus lead distance, and we will do some gun fitting.
then off to the pattern board to double check the fitment.
then working on doing load details and a load work up to fit her gun better.
