Grab a Gun

I got a email this morning from http://grabagun.com/; have any of you used their service(s)? They have some smokin' hot deals and I saw one for a Rem 700 .308 for $649 (after a $150 mail in rebate) and the rifle has a 24" barrel. Almost sounds to good to believe.
Any input? It does have a synthetic stock though.

Yeah, I've got that mindset as well, but the price seems very good, especially for a 24" barrel.

I'm trying.
but the last Remington I bought [this spring] is already in the gunsmiths hooks with no timeframe for return.
all I needed was a new sear but the phone number in the owners manual had been disconnected.
I gave the smith a 2 week heads up figuring that would be enough time for him to get the part and have it ready when I dropped the gun off.
he had been on hold 3 times [being hung up on twice] long enough he was able to cut and mill and install the 4 way adjustable cheek piece on my SKB while listening to their music.
he still never got through to them.

I won't even go into the past trials, tears, heartbreak, disappointment, money loss, and tribulations I have had with Remington made guns.

5 pages on a Remlin that's been back 3 times and still has no lands and grooves in a 3rd of the bbl . What are the odds ?

I would rather have a Savage 110 for less money.
Now if they had a Win 92 in the right cartridge......

Most gunsmiths I've talked to love to build custom 700s from scratch with quality parts for big $$$ but tell me that most of the barrels that left the factory in the last forever are really only good for jack handle bar stock or at best, without lathe work, tomato stakes.

What's wrong with FN Model 70s? I hear so little about them and almost nothing bad. So many people are hung up on Remington, and I never understood why. If I was going to drop $7-900 on a new bolt rifle it would be one of those, with CRF by golly. Remington push feed sucks IMO. Even Savage and 80s Winchesters are better.

If for no other reason, I have the red-ass at Remington/Serberus Group for killing off H&R.

the new Winchesters are nice, I almost put my Bergara back down and bought one of those control feed FN's instead.
the same 800$ will buy a Bergara barreled rifle that just works and is sub MOA accurate. [mine is sub 1/2 MOA with no load work up whatsoever it was truly a one and done load work up]

650$ is in the ball park of the Ruger Hawkeye msrp.

As far as the "No lands and grooves" in Rem bbl, I know some folks in the
police sharpshooter community here. They tell of another dept that purchased
4 new Rem 700 sniper rifles. One wouldn't hit the paper at 100yds. Took it to
their smith......smoothbore.
How in heck does that leave the factory? Does ANYONE actually look down a barrel
during the latter part of the manufacturing process? Turns out those spirally things
are important.

That said, I have an old Rem 700 HB what will shoot well under a minute out to 500 yds,
real world, off a bipod. A young friend put 3 into 0.68" at 300 yds one afternoon while
I was teaching him the finer points of long range shooting....well, reasonably long. I know
that folks shoot a whole lot farther than that, but many folks never get past 100.

So, the design is good, but I wonder about their current production QC.

I'm just going to stick with my Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 CM. Easy to shoot and doesn't kick the snot out of my shoulder.
