Hey Lamar,

Rally

NC Minnesota
I really feel for these guys working this piece of pipe. With the meltdown being forecast the next week, these guys are going to be swimming. The picture on right is heading East into a large bog, about 13 miles wide with two small rivers, and the Mississippi to cross. They are going to be standing in soup and they just started burying line the last few days! UGH

Rally there is another line just south of me crossing 64. Going west to east.
And another stretch approaching 371 from the west. That is south of Backus.

I think the line south of Backus is also line three, and will connect south of Remer. This area is running under the power line almost straight east and will end up in Duluth/ Superior. My understanding is that was part of the rebuild of the docks at the Duluth port. They are fixing washed out docks, retainers and adding warehouse/ storage facilities.

how did I miss this thread?

that doesn't look too bad.

I remember dropping off a hill in Wyoming one time looking for a location and realizing it was that pond I was sitting next to.
we stuck about 18 big rigs in there and started laying in hoses and 4" Iron in water from 3 to 5 foot deep.
the epa-types wouldn't let us run the water off the edge of location, and the company man wouldn't let us wait a day or so.
ridiculous to say the least.
have you ever tried swinging an 8lb. sledge hammer under water?

after some phone calls and pictures we ended up getting the job pushed back a day, and that night one of the ''approved water'' water tanks sprung a leak at the back, it magically got re-filled with location spring water. [ahem cough cough]
still a mud festival the next day, but at least we could knock everything together.

And to add to their swimming, the news just said we are breaking a high temp record from 1887! Oh, and DOT just put road restrictions on about a month early. There are a bunch of these guys from Tx, so I guess they'll get a vacation for awhile. Not sure how much pipe they already had in place. Maybe just have to haul lighter loads? They have stacks of tires at all the highway crossings, for the tracked vehicles to run on, while crossing, to keep from tearing up the tar. I'm guessing they figured to be farther along before the road restrictions went in place.

they'll just get a permit and haul in the same weight.
airc the permit in most places is under a hundred bucks and covers the whole time frame.

What are these, pipe lines? What are they for?

It's line #3, oil pipeline. It's going to the refinery and shipyard in Superior.

Lamar,
Didn't see a single truck down there today or on the road. All the pipe that was staged in one spot is all gone, so I'm assuming they got it in place, or staged farther in. Workers vehicles there but nobody visible so I'm guessing they are farther east, just out of sight. I'm betting they wouldn't give a permit to anyone, because the roads turn into washboards the way it is at break up. If it was just a $100 permit, the bigger loggers would just pay it and keep on trucking out of the woods before the secondary and winter roads thaw. Those guys got rained on for a good part of the day, and now 5" of snow forecast tonight, with highs tomorrow around 42. I'm betting hip boots will be a hot commodity around here the next week or so!

depending on how they are putting the pipe together they could be in one spot for a little while, or they could be slapping things together and moving along at a pretty brisk pace.

I suspected that but, I have an alternate explanation for their disappearance and that of the pipe. Since it wasn't a pipe line for piping wind or sunshine, I posit that during the night an EPA strike force swept in and seized the pipe and equipment, and arrested the workers. Those workers will be held incommunicado in the encampments near the borders formerly used to house illegal border invaders who have subsequently been released.

Kevin,
My wife and her oldest friend went to the Dakota magic casino Sunday, and stayed the night. Got up Monday and her friend wasn't feeling great, so medics at casino gave her the once over, discovered her BP was off the charts. They wanted to have her airlifted to Fargo, but she wasn't having any of that, so the wife drove her to the ER in Fargo because she was having blurred vision, minor chest pains, etc. So the wife stayed with her and spent the night in Fargo, and her daughter and SIL drove out to Fargo. With the Covid restrictions, she's only allowed one visitor, and my wife couldn't see her anymore, to allow her daughter the visitation rights. So the wife drove her car to our place. She had a pretty bad spell Monday, and they found a blood clot, near a vein or something they couldn't put a stent in or something like that. She's already had one attack and doesn't take to good of care of herself. She didn't want to have any major surgeries so far from home so her daughter is going to drive her home tomorrow, then probably end up taking her to Duluth.
